Meet the stars set to play Rebekah Vardy and Coleen Rooney in new Wagatha Christie drama-Meghna Amin-Entertainment – Metro

The drama we’ve all been waiting is set to be hitting our screens.

It’s….Vardy V Rooney: A Courtroom Drama.

Channel 4 announced the news that the trial that had the nation hooked will officially be reaching our screens, and we can’t wait.

The real-life drama began when Coleen Rooney accused Rebekah Vardy of leaking stories on her to the press, claiming she had set up a ‘sting operation’ by limiting access to her private Instagram Stories to only Vardy’s account and posting fake stories.

Vardy has always denied the claims and sued Rooney for libel, but lost the trial when it was ruled Rooney did not defame her.

Now, the drama will play out on TV with scenes from inside the courtroom to analysis from the media.

But who will be playing the footballers, WAGs and everyone else involved in the trial that had us glued to screens?

Natalia Tena as Rebekah Vardy

British-Spanish actress and musician Natalia Tena is set to play Rebekah Vardy.

The 37-year-old is best known for playing Nymphadora Tonks in the Harry Potter films, and wildling Osha in Game of Thrones.

Tena has also appeared in an episode of Black Mirror and in CBS drama Wisdom of the Crowd.

Chanel Cresswell as Coleen Rooney

This Is England actress Chanel Cresswell has been cast as Coleen Rooney, having played Kelly Jenkins in the 2006 film and its three subsequent series.

In 2016, Cresswell won a Bafta for Best Supporting Actress after the miniseries aired on Channel 4.

Cresswell also played Katie McVey in Sky One sitcom Trollied from 2011 to 2013, before returning for her role in 2015 until the finale in 2018.

Michael Sheen as David Sherborne

Michael Sheen will be taking on the role of David Sherborne, Rooney’s barrister.

The Welsh stage and screen actor who has previously starred as former UK Prime Minister Tony Blair across a series of films which have scored him nominations for a Bafta award and an Emmy.

Sheen is also known for his roles in Good Omens and Twilight, as well as for his role in Masters of Sex, for which he received a Golden Globe nomination in 2013.

Simon Coury as Hugh Tomlinson QC

Simon Coury will be playing Vardy’s barrister Hugh Tomlinson QC, who has previously worked for celebs including David Beckham and Lily Allen.

Coury has previously featured in EastEnders and Emmerdale.

Dion Lloyd as Wayne Rooney

Coleen’s husband and Manchester United legend Wayne Rooney will be played by Dion Lloyd.

The Welsh actor has previously starred in Bafta winning feature film Pride.

Marci Nagyszokolyai as Jamie Vardy

Meanwhile, Rebekah’s husband Leicester City striker Jamie is set to be played by Hungarian actor Marci Nagyszokolyai.

After making headlines around the world, the Wagatha Christie trial will be played out in a two-part film which recreates the high drama, high stakes High Court defamation case that followed, a case that had a huge impact on the lives of the two women at its heart and catapulted the two sparring legal teams into the spotlight, where much like Rooney and Vardy, their every move in the courtroom was dissected and scrutinised in the press.

According to the show’s announcement, ‘created from the real court transcripts, Vardy v Rooney: A Courtroom Drama will bring viewers all of the incredible and unbelievable moments from a case that kept the public and media gripped.’

Vardy V Rooney: A Courtroom Drama airs later this year.
