Happy Mondays icon Shaun Ryder had some choice words for Home Secretary Suella Braverman and her plans to bump cannabis up to a class A drug.

Ryder, 60, appeared on Piers Morgan: Uncensored on Tuesday night and called the proposed move ‘draconian’.

He also called Braverman a ‘k**b’.

‘I’m gonna be quite controversial here, Piers, and call the Home Secretary a k**b,’ the singer kicked off.

‘Because draconian rules…you know to class-A, what is that going to achieve?

‘It is ridiculous, it is draconian, and I really thought whatever happens in America, whether it’s 10 years, 20 years, it happens here, and we should be taxing it and we should be making money off it.

‘We need to go forward and we’re going backwards, we need to try something that hasn’t been tried before.’

Host Piers Morgan went on to stress no one has ever been recorded to overdose on cannabis.

‘It is impossible, pretty much,’ he said.

However, after turning to some of his team members for their thoughts, the former GMB star said: ‘They have family members, some of them who’ve had extremely bad experiences by taking too much marijuana. And you do read a lot of grim stories about people who’ve been addicted to it.

‘It ruins their lives, it’s a gateway drug to more serious drugs. What do you say to that argument?’

Ryder explained that he used to smoke marijuana until he got paranoid, and then he stopped.

‘There are no withdrawal symptoms. They’re not physical withdrawal symptoms, they are more mental.

‘Do I want it? It lasts for about a week, so you know, it is just ridiculous. It really is draconian.’

Ryder’s vent comes after a government source claimed Braverman is considering upgrading cannabis from a Class B drug to Class A, which would put it on a par with substances like heroin and crack cocaine and mean the maximum prison sentence for possession would rise from five to seven years.

For people supplying and producing weed, jail time would rise from 14 years to a life sentence.

Piers Morgan: Uncensored airs weeknights at 8pm.
