Harrison Ford is reportedly being lined up to play Thaddeus ‘Thunderbolt’ Ross in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
The Indiana Jones and Star Wars legend could be making his MCU debut and it’s rumoured he’s making his debut in Captain America 4 before Thunderbolts brings the MCU’s Phase 5 to a close in 2024.
As reported by both /Film and The Hot Mic podcast’s Jeff Sneider, Ford is set to replace the late William Hurt, who played General Ross in several Marvel blockbusters before his death earlier this year.
After his first appearance in 2008’s The Incredible Hulk, he also featured in Captain America: Civil War, Avengers: Infinity War and Endgame, and Black Widow.
It’s unclear exactly what Ford’s role will be in the films, but in the comic books the character often takes on a similar role to Suicide Squad’s Amanda Waller.
In an even more exciting possibility for fans, Ross also becomes Red Hulk in the comics, with the character already teased in a recent episode of Marvel’s She-Hulk.

The character was created as part of the Intelligencia super solider programme, and was portrayed as a more tactical version of the Hulk with added weapons.
If that’s the direction Marvel takes the character on the big screen, fans can take some great comfort in the imagine of Harrison Ford himself wearing a motion capture suit to bring Red Hulk to life.
It’s no surprise people are already loving the idea, with one fan tweeting: ‘The thought of Harrison Ford playing the Red Hulk tickles me to no end.’

Another person added: ‘Tom Hanks was my first choice but Harrison Ford in the MCU is also pretty freaking awesome. Red Hulk is happening!’
And a third fan wrote: ‘We’re really gonna see Harrison Ford become Red Hulk I’m losing my mind.’
In March, Hurt’s family revealed the actor died ‘peacefully’ a week before his 72nd birthday.
A tweet on the Marvel account was among the first to pay tribute, writing: ‘Rest In Peace to an amazing talent William Hurt, beloved Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross in our Marvel Cinematic Universe.’
Hulk actor Ruffalo added: ‘Wow, another Major loss to the acting community. Great actor. Great mind. RIP.’
