Dancing on Ice hasn’t even begun yet but Joey Essex has already managed to end up with a nasty injury.

Just days into training for the competition, the former Towie star got a bit too ambitious and ended up slicing his finger.

‘So today was my first day training with my professional before I get put with my partner,’ Essex explained in a video posted to his Instagram account.

‘It went well and the first two days I got on the ice and saw what we could do.’

But, he admitted he got a bit too enthusiastic and it backfired.

‘I think being a risk taker is going to be an advantage of mine but I don’t think it was an advantage on day one or two because I’ve ended up with a metal finger,’ he said, holding up his left middle finger to the screen, showing it all wrapped up.

‘I’m lucky I’ve still got my finger to be honest, but I’ve got to deal with this now,’ he added.

Essex seems to have taken it in his stride and has learnt his lesson, saying that ‘you live and learn’.

‘If you’re ever going to become a dancer on ice, don’t take risks right away, it’s all about patience.’

He also posted a photo of his bandaged finger, captioning it ‘respect the ice, otherwise the ice will not respect you’.

Fellow Dancing on Ice contestant Ekin-Su Culculoglu commenting, writing ‘keep going x’.

This week, the full line-up of the stars who have signed up to skate on the next season was announced, with The Wanted’s Siva Kaneswaran completing the group.

Also competing will be Carley Stenson, Darren Harriott, John Fashanu, Michelle Heaton, Mollie Gallagher, Nile Wilson, Patsy Palmer, The Wanted’s Siva Kaneswaran and The Vivienne.

Dancing On Ice returns to ITV in 2023.
