Liz Truss clearly hasn’t watched The Thick of It too closely or paid attention to advice from its anti-hero Malcolm Tucker (Peter Capaldi).
The prime minister sensationally sacked Kwasi Kwarteng just 38 days after he was appointed chancellor on Friday.
The move made the 47-year-old the second shortest-serving chancellor after Iain Macleod, who died of a heart attack 30 days after taking the job in 1970.
It comes after the Conservative’s proposed economic agenda plunged the markets into chaos and sent the pound plummeting, with Truss u-turning again on the disastrous mini-budget.
However, according to BBC drama The Thick of It, created by Armando Iannucci, Truss’ actions could have further consequences for her own career.
In series 3, episode 2, foul-mouthed spin doctor Malcolm attempted to reassure hapless new minister Nicola Murray (Rebecca Front) about her career.

He tells her: ‘Sacked after twelve months: looks like you’ve f****d up. Sacked after a week: looks like he’s f****d up.’
Doesn’t bode well for Truss, with many, including within her own party, calling for her to resign.
The Thick Of It satirised the workings of the British government, focusing on the fictional Department of Social Affairs and Citizenship.

Running from 2005 to 2012, it starred Dr Who’s Peter, as well as Chris Addison, Rebecca Front, Joanna Scanlan, James Smith and Roger Allam.
Armando has previously said there would not be a new season of the satire because the political landscape is ridiculous enough.
