Abigail Breslin has opened up about a past ‘very abusive relationship’ in the hope it will help others experiencing domestic violence.

The Little Miss Sunshine star said her ex-partner, whom she was with for close to two years, would beat her on a ‘regular basis’ and ‘lock her into rooms.’

On Instagram on Friday, the 26-year-old wrote: ‘I was in a very abusive relationship for close to 2 years.

‘It all started out perfectly, I was so in love. Unfortunately, my abuser took advantage of my innocence and naïveté and the relationship subsequently became violent.

‘I was beaten on a regular basis, locked into rooms and forced to pretend everything was ok and normal while dealing with intense injuries… injuries most people didn’t even see.’

The Zombieland actor explain she would ‘use concealer and caked on foundation’ to hide the bruise because she ‘still cared’ for her ex-partner.

She added: ‘The physical injuries were also accompanied by a plethora of put downs, shaming and harsh verbal abuse.

‘I felt so unworthy of anyones love. I felt ugly and hated. I felt like I deserved less than dirt. I was certain, there must be something inherently WRONG with ME.’

The relationship left her feeling ‘the lonelist I’ve ever felt’ and said she was ‘forever indebted to those closest to me’ who helped her ‘leave this horrible situation.’

Abigail explained she had been diagnosed with complex post-traumatic stress disorder but the condition was ‘much better’, adding she is ‘still healing’ from the abuse.

She added that she hoped ‘sharing my story helps some people feel less alone.’

Abigail continued: ‘If you are in an abusive relationship currently, you CAN get out of it. I know it seems impossible and terrifying, but you have survived so much and you CAN survive leaving if you have the right tools and support.’

The Scream Queens actor also said she was now in a  ‘wonderful, healthy, happy and amazing relationship’ with her fiance Ira Kunyansky.
