Love Island star Liberty Poole has spoken out after being ‘verbally abused’ by a group of men in public.

The reality star rose to prominence after appearing in the 2021 series of the reality dating show, and went on to appear on last year’s Dancing On Ice.

While on the popular ITV2 show, Liberty was often dressed to the nines and wearing makeup as she and the other cast members were paired up in the hopes of finding love.

However the star now says she was shouted at and called a ‘catfish’ for daring to go makeup-free while travelling.

Liberty, 23, took to Instagram on Friday, without makeup or fake tan, her long blonde hair tied up in a ponytail, and explained to her 1.4 million followers what had happened.

‘I went to the airport and I literally went no lashes, no foundation, real stripped back and just me,’ she said.

‘I was like verbally abused by a group of lads in public, shouting at me: “You’ve gone downhill since Love Island, oh my God you’re such a catfish,” and telling members of staff “oh my God have you seen Liberty, blah blah blah,” just because I’ve gone to the airport stripped back.’

She went on: ‘I feel like it’s so important to let people know that on social media you’re going to post your best pictures, but you’re not always going to be glam, you’re not always going to be on top form, you do have your down days.’

Pointing out a spot on her chin, Liberty said she was unfiltered, hadn’t done her fake tan, and said: ‘This is me, and I’m not ashamed.’

‘Here I am making a stand and saying I’m not ashamed to be here wearing no lashes, no tan, no makeup, hair scraped up, looking how I am.

‘I’m not ashamed,’ she reiterated, saying it was important to ‘tell young girls that it’s normal to be like this, you don’t have to be dolled up to the dimes every night…. that is not realistic standards.’

Taking a positive stance, Liberty thanked the people ‘that have made me feel like s***, and I cried but I’m allowed to feel emotions. I’m allowed to feel sad but I pick myself back up.’

She finished by announcing she would be going out that night, ‘I’m going to have the best time ever and live my best life.

‘You’re beautiful no matter what people say to you.’

Earlier this year the star revealed she would ‘love’ the chance to return to the Love Island villa, after former cast member Adam Collard made a surprise reappearance in the 2022 series.

Explaining in an AskMeAnything Reddit thread in July, she said: ‘I would love to have another chance at finding love as it hasn’t worked out for me in the villa or outside the villa since.’

While in the villa, Liberty’s relationship with Jake Cornish left viewers heartbroken as they exited the villa together after calling it quits.
