Meghan Trainor has opened up about the terrifying experience she had after giving birth to her son Riley, after he ‘didn’t wake up for a week’.

The singer, 28, who shares her 20-month-old son with her husband Daryl Sabara, 30, felt like she was blamed by some medics after her baby was born and didn’t wake up for several days.

She told People: ‘They were like, “Sometimes it happens,” and then some nurses were like, “Well, it’s because you’re on antidepressants,” and I’m like, “Yeah, but I’ve been told by others that it’s not that.”

‘It was just really frustrating not having an answer. Not having answers for why my kid didn’t wake up for a week was very frustrating.’

Meghan has been open about her own mental health journey in the past, particularly since becoming a parent, and hopes that by sharing her struggles she might help others.

She added: ‘When I talk about what I went through with my mental health stuff, or anything bad or something I struggled with, I was like, “I bet there’s many other mums out there that are dealing with this too.”

‘I’m comfortable telling my truth and talking about my personal things if it helps others, you know?’

Thankfully, despite the ‘traumatic’ start, Riley is growing strong and at the stage where he can show his love for his parents.

Meghan revealed that Riley first started saying ‘Dada’ and she worried whether he even knew she existed, but he is now at the age where he runs up to her and gives her cuddles when he sees her.

She joked: ‘He finally knows who I am, and he gives me those running hugs. It’s like my little koala.

‘He just squeezes me so tight, and I’m like, “Oh my God, he knows who I am, and he loves me.’”

Meghan admitted it was the ‘greatest feeling ever’ to be on the receiving end of such enthusiastic affection from her little boy.
