Kimberley Walsh has revealed that Girls Aloud may never perform again as she thinks it would be ‘too painful’ for them to reunite as a band following member Sarah Harding’s death last September.
Harding died of breast cancer aged just 39 in 2021, and Kimberley spoke about how she and fellow Girls Aloud stars Cheryl, Nicola Roberts and Nadine Coyle have been able to come together since to do ‘some really positive fundraising for charity’
Speaking to hosts Alison Hammond and Dermot O’Leary about Harding, Kimberley revealed that the band had no plans to mark 20 years since their debut single Sound of the Underground was released in December.
‘We’re not really doing anything to celebrate that for obvious reasons, but what’s been really nice is we’ve been able to still come together and do some really positive fundraising for Sarah’s charity,’ she said.
‘It’s been incredible. We’ve funded a whole research project that she wanted us to raise money for. We are really proud of the fact we’ve managed to do that for her.’
The re-release of the single is also set to raise more money for breast cancer research and the hospital that looked after their late friend.

When Dermot asked about the possibility of the band doing something together live to celebrate the anniversary, Kimberley – who was the fourth star eliminated from The Masked Dancer over the weekend – admitted she felt it wasn’t something she thought was likely.
‘We were all together, we did a gala for Sarah last weekend and we were all together, and lots of our GA [Girls Aloud] family were there and it just felt really special to have that night, but I just feel for all of us, it would just be too painful,’ she explained.
‘We’re so grateful that we had the time that we did and that we can find a way of doing something positive. But I don’t think it’s going to be something that we’ll do.’

The girls attended the Primrose Ball in London on October 8, which raised money for the Christie NHS Foundation Trust and Cancer Research UK as part of the Sarah Harding Breast Cancer Appeal.
The girls hosted the event, with Fearne Cotton presenting and broadcaster Johnny Gould hosting the auction.
