Stormzy is planning to give Mariah Carey a run for her money as he plans to make a play for this year’s UK Christmas number one spot.

The Mel Made Me Do It rapper, 29, recently announced that his highly anticipated third studio album, This Is What I Mean, will be released next month.

Speaking to presenters Ronan Keating and Harriet Scott on Magic Radio Breakfast, the musician discussed whether his upcoming album features a festive track.

‘Well, lo and behold I’ve got something really special for you guys,’ he said.

‘And do you know why I’m so proud? Because I made this song with love… I just made this song, and it came from the most pure place, I wrote it with an amazing artist. ‘

He continued: A really extremely gifted artist called Debbie and we made this beautiful, beautiful song, and I genuinely think that…I don’t want to jinx it, but I swear to you, I can’t wait for you guys to hear it.’

Stormzy recently returned to Instagram after two years off the grid, after growing consumed with the ‘validation’ he would get from the apps.

With his page reactivated, the musician has kept hold of his three million followers but is yet to bless us with any new content and his old posts have been removed.

The new album comes three years after Heavy Is The Head, and follows the release of the hit single Mel Made Me Do It last month – with an accompanying 10-minute, cameo-packed music video featuring Louis Theroux, Usain Bolt, and Jose Mourinho.

Theroux, 52, made his cameo after spending time with Stormzy as part of an upcoming BBC Two documentary series, Louis Theroux Interviews.

Speaking about the experience of working with Theroux, Stormzy said: “I love Louis, and I’ve been a massive, massive fan of him from years ago. I’ve watched every Louis documentary.’

He added: ‘He was with me for maybe three or four days, and he would just come and tag along, like let’s go to the studio, or he’d come to the show and just ask a few questions.’

‘He really disarms you, and then he gets to the nitty gritty, and when I watched it back I was like, I’ve never actually seen my life from this perspective.’
