Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson may have left WWE for Hollywood a long time ago, but wrestling is still very much in his blood – and his heart.

The former world champion and Black Adam actor is rumoured to be making an epic return to the ring to face his real life cousin Roman Reigns at when WrestleMania 39 rolls in Hollywood in April 2023, but there’s also a chance he could be joining the team behind the scenes.

It’s been all change for WWE this year, after Vince McMahon retired in July with his daughter Stephanie McMahon taking over as chair, as well as co-CEO alongside Nick Khan, and Paul ‘Triple H’ Levesque becoming head of creative and talent relations along with his latest job title chief content officer.

Asked about the possibility of accepting a director position with the company where he became a star, The Rock admitted he’s already talked about the idea with Khan.

‘Nick [Khan] and I have talked about that, and we always enjoy that over a bottle of Teremana,’ he told Bloomberg, referring to his own tequila brand.

For Dwayne, wrestling has always been around and while he doesn’t know if he’d become a member of the board of directors, there are other possibilities.

He added: ‘I love the wrestling business. I grew up in it. My grandfather [and] my dad started here in Canada, where [his father] was born. So, I’m not quite too sure if a board seat is in my future, but possibly other things are in my future, for sure.’

There has also been plenty of speculation for a while now about WWE potentially being sold, and Dwayne thinks Vince – who still remains majority owner – would need to know the company was being passed onto someone who truly loves wrestling.

‘I’ve known Vince for a very, very long time and he’s a businessman. I think the key if there were a sale of the WWE is to make sure that whoever acquires that brand in that property, you’ve got to love the wrestling business,’ he explained.

‘Of course, you can love the asset, and you can love everything that comes with it, but you got to love the professional wrestling business… because if not, then you could kind of see the writing on the wall; four or five years down the road, what will happen?’

Meanwhile, there’s still no confirmation about The Rock potentially lacing up his boots one more time, but he recently gave a coy answer while chatting to media and promoting his new DC blockbuster Black Adam.

Appearing on E! News’ The Rundown, Dwayne was asked who the Head of the Table – a nickname reserved for Roman – actually is, and brilliantly replied: ‘Who is head of the table? Without saying any names, you’re looking into his eyes right now.’

In a fantastic follow-up, the interviewer wondered if the People’s Champ was ready to confirm he’d be facing Roman at WrestleMania, but he laughed off the question.

‘I am not confirming that at all. No. No, I am not,’ he smiled. ‘I know I’m going to get a text from him after he watches this.’

Despite not giving a definitive answer, The Rock did admit he’s had talks with someone in WWE – which could be Triple H or Nick Khan – about the possibility of coming in for a WrestleMania bout.

‘I love the idea of a WrestleMania. I’m close to a lot of people there, but I’m very close to one in particular, who we’ve talked about this. There are so many variables that come into play,’ he explained.

‘I’m a fan because I’m a promoter at heart. I’m a fan of promoting an event and what could that be. I love WrestleMania and I love that world.’
