Married At First Sight UK expert Charlene Douglas has defended the success rate of the 2022 series after it was revealed most of the couples had split following the experiment.
Following the final vowels, the reunion episode confirmed that just two couples – April Banbury and George Roberts, and Jenna Robinson and Zoe Hartley – were still together out of the 10 original marriages.
It is not yet known whether April and George are still an item after George was arrested on suspicion of controlling and coercive behaviour earlier this month.
While many viewers have been fiercely critical over the success rate, Charlene explained that she values the individuals’ personal growth over being in a committed relationship.
Speaking exclusively to Metro.co.uk, she said: ‘For me, success isn’t that they’re together in a relationship. We know that there are people in relationships and although they have the status of being in a relationship, they are not happy and they are not the best versions of themselves.

‘For me, success is also that they’ve learned a lot about themselves, for example, Whitney [Hughes] has expressed that she’s a lot more vulnerable and has found her voice.
‘I think the feedback so many of them got they would have never got anywhere else.’
Chanita and Jordan broke up shortly after the experiment (Picture: E4)
She continued: ‘Jonathan [Wileman], bless him, very innocently said things and didn’t properly think about it. With feedback, the hope is that he can go away and think about it and be a bit more sensitive in future relationships. Just so he knows what he needs to do.’
During Monday night’s reunion episode, it was confirmed that Jonathan and Sophie Brown had parted ways.

The show’s strongest couple, Chanita Stephenson and Jordan Emmett-Connelly, also have split, with controversial pairing Whitney and Matt Murray also breaking up.
Speaking about her heartbreak, Chanita told the group: ‘Jordan didn’t think they were compatible.’
He later told her: ‘I’m so sorry. I’m sorry if I ever upset you. I’m sorry.’
Married At First Sight UK airs tonight at 9pm on E4.
