Netflix viewers have been left a little more than disappointed at the ending of new chilling series, The Watcher.

The thriller centres on married couple Dean (Bobby Cannavale) and Nora Brannock (Naomi Watts) who, after moving into their dream home, receive threatening letters from a terrifying stalker known as The Watcher.

Based on inspiration from a true story, the drama has been created by Glee’s Ryan Murphy, and stars Jennifer Coolidge as a real estate agent.

The true incidents, linked to the ‘Watcher’ house in New Jersey, follow scar letters sent to a couple after they bought a house for $1.4million (£1.2million) in 2014.

The anonymous and mysterious letters forced them to put the house on the market again in 2017, with the new owner also opening a letter from the stalker, whose identity still remains a mystery.

In the gripping seven-part series, Dean and Nora seem to have solved the mystery when it turns out the private detective they had hired is actually The Watcher.

But, not long later, it is revealed that the private detective (who had claimed she just wanted the house removed from occupants so she could have it) lied and only wanted to give the family some closure before she died from a terminal illness.

So, just like in real life, the mystery remains, and The Watcher is still unidentified.

At the end of the series, Dean and Nora move out too, however, viewers have slammed this ending.

The ending of the watcher might be hands down the worst ending to any piece of cinema I’ve ever had to see. All the directions they could’ve went and THAT is how they end it? Utterly horrible

If you’re going to start The Watcher on Netflix, don’t. Officially the worst ending I’ve ever seen.

Just binged The Watcher on Netflix.. awesome plot, horrendous ending

If you’re thinking of which new thing to watch on Netflix I wouldn’t watch The Watcher. One of those series where they try to build mystery but it just doesn’t work. Bad acting and a completely unacceptable (and silly) ending too

I am so disappointed by the ending of ‘The Watcher’ on Netflix. The series was so good at the start. 💔

I thought it started out really well with lots of promise, but I just got more and more frustrated with it as it went on. Just felt like a waste!!

Another angry viewer penned: ‘I just finished watching #TheWatcher on Netflix and, despite having a really promising premise, the ending of this show WAS ABSOLUTE GARBAGE.

‘I haven’t been THIS p**sed about investing time in a show and getting this soggy diaper of an ending. Lazy b******t. 3 out of 10.

The Watcher is available to view on Netflix.
