Boris Johnson’s sister Rachel has not held back from telling it how it is.

Appearing on tonight’s Question Time, which was brought forward following Liz Truss’ resignation as Prime Minister, Rachel was caught up in a discussion about whether or not there should be a general election.

While Minister of State for Climate Graham Stuart MP made it clear that his view was that a general election wouldn’t solve this country’s problems, Rachel was pretty brutal about the Tories.

‘The only thing that is actually uniting the Tory party is terror of a general election,’ she began.

The presenter continued: ‘Because even if Margaret Thatcher came back reincarnated with Mother Theresa in her handbag, she could not win this election for the Tories now.

‘Don’t forget the most successful Tory politician of the moment is a lettuce, who has outlasted Liz Truss.’

Rachel was referring to The Daily Star’s lettuce, which was livestreamed alongside a picture of the Prime Minister to see which one would last longer.

She lost the race to the 60p vegetable today, as she made history becoming the shortest serving PM.

Earlier today, the PM delivered a speech outside Downing Street to announce that she was stepping down from the role after a disastrous short term, which has included crashing the economy and the departure of both her Chancellor of the Exchequer and Home Secretary.

The PM brought her tumultuous 44-day premiership to an end after frenzied plotting among her own MPs, who lost faith in her ability to govern following a disastrous ‘mini-budget’ and days of chaos at the heart of government.

Now, a day after she said ‘I am a fighter not a quitter’, Britain is set to have a new leader within a week.

On the steps of Downing Street, the PM told the nation that she recognised, ‘given the situation, I cannot deliver the mandate on which I was elected by the Conservative Party.’

Question Time is available to watch on BBC iPlayer.
