Shakira has seemingly made reference to her doomed romance with Gerard Pique in a new song, following their split.

Earlier this year, the Hips Don’t Lie singer announced that her relationship with the Barcelona footballer, 35, was over after more than a decade together.

In her new song, titled Monotonia, the 45-year-old appeared to aim some of the lyrics at the athlete – who she shares two children with.

‘It’s a necessary goodbye. What used to be incredible became routine,’ she could be heard singing in Spanish. ‘Your lips don’t taste like anything to me.

‘I know that I gave more than you.’

‘You left me because of your narcissism. You forgot what we used to be,’ she sang, describing his attitude as ‘distant’.

In the accompanying music video, which premiered on YouTube this week, she could be seen in tears as she wandered around the aisles of a supermarket.

The musician met her now-ex in 2010, when she filmed a music video for her World Cup anthem, Waka Waka.

They dated for 11 years and welcomed sons Milan and Sasha together in that time.

Shakira recently spoke out over their long-term relationship ending in a candid interview, and vowed that she put ‘everything’ into the time they spent together.

‘Sometimes I just feel like this is all a bad dream and that I’m going to wake up at some point. But no, it’s real. And what’s also real is the disappointment to see something as sacred and as special as I thought was the relationship I had with my kids’ father and see that turned into something vulgarized and cheapened by the media,’ she began to Elle Magazine.

‘I think that those details are somehow too private to share, at least at this very moment – everything is so raw and new. I can only say that I put everything I had into this relationship and my family.’

Reflecting on their relationship, the Wherever, Whenever musician said that she put her own career on the backburner to be a support system for her loved ones.

‘One of the two had to make that effort and that sacrifice. And I did it. I put my career in second gear and I came to Spain, to support him so he could play football and win titles. And it was a sacrifice of love. Thanks to that, my kids were able to have a present mom, and I have this amazing bond with them that is unbreakable and that sustains us,’ she continued.

‘It’s hard to talk about it, especially because I’m still going through it, and because I’m in the public eye and because our separation is not like a regular separation. And so it’s been tough not only for me, but also for my kids. Incredibly difficult.

‘Regardless of how things ended or how Gerard and I feel about each other as ex-partners, he is the father of my children. We have a job to do for these two incredible boys, and I have faith that we will figure out what is best for their future, their own dreams in life, and what is a fair solution for everyone involved. And I hope and would appreciate if we were given the space to do that privately.’
