Earlier today, Liz Truss officially resigned from her post as Prime Minister.

Before the shortest-serving PM in history announced she’d be quitting her role at No 10 Downing Street, a lectern was brought out to signal that a speech was about to take place.

Just over three months ago, when Boris Johnson declared he was stepping down as PM (yes, it was really only that long ago), members of the public were delighted to see the so-called ‘Hot Podium Guy’ make an appearance to make sure the famous lectern was positioned correctly.

However, when the time came for Ms Truss to address the media and the people across the nation, the recognisable sound engineer – whose name is Tobias Gough – was nowhere to be seen on the live TV broadcasts.

Several Twitter users immediately questioned his whereabouts, with one tweeting: ‘Where’s our hot podium guy?’

‘All this will be worth it if we see hot podium guy again,’ someone else quipped, while another person chimed in: ‘Did I miss hot podium guy?’ with a sad face emoji.

One person even admitted they came onto Twitter just to find out if there was an answer about his absence.

‘The hot podium guy will return…as soon as we deserve it,’ someone else joked lightheartedly.

‘Hot Podium Guy’ might not have made an appearance this time around… but his dedicated fanbase sure are excited to see him at some point again in the future.

At the rate this year is going, perhaps that’ll be sooner than we think.

In her resignation speech, Ms Truss – who served just 44 days in office – said that she began the role ‘at a time of great economic and international instability, families and businesses were worried about how to pay their bills’.

‘Putin’s illegal war in Ukraine threatens the security of our whole continent and our country has been held back too long by low economic growth,’ she said.

‘I was elected by the Conservative party with a mandate to change this, we delivered on energy bills and on cutting National Insurance. And we set out a vision for a low tax high growth economy that would take advantage of the freedoms of Brexit.’

‘I recognise though, given the situation, I cannot deliver the mandate on which I was elected by the Conservative Party.

‘I have therefore spoken to his majesty the king to notify him that I am resigning as leader of the Conservative Party.

‘This morning I met the chairman of the 1922 Committee, Sir Graham Brady.

‘We have agreed there will be a leadership election to be completed within the next week.

‘This will ensure we remain on the path to deliver our fiscal plans and maintain our country’s economic stability and national security.

‘I will remain as PM until a successor has been chosen, thank you.’
