Motsi Mabuse has revealed her mother found it ‘very stressful’ when both she and her sister Oti were on Strictly Come Dancing.

The 41-year-old has been on the judging panel of the BBC’s juggernaut series since 2019, while Oti was a professional dancer on the show from 2015 until 2021.

Oti made the ‘difficult decision’ not to return to Strictly after a six-year stint during which she won the Glitterball Trophy twice in a row with Kelvin Fletcher and Bill Bailey.

During the recording of Friday’s The Graham Norton Show, Motsi, who appeared alongside Stormzy, Geena Davis and Stephen Graham, opened up about Oti’s exit to the Eurovision commentator.

Asked what it is like without eight-time South African Latin American Champion on Strictly, she revealed: ‘It’s different. I just feel like she is missing for me because I always used to look at her, but in some sort of way the family is more relaxed.

‘My mother was very stressed out when we were both in the show and now she doesn’t care, she is very relaxed.’

Motsi is currently judging the dancing talents of the likes of Will Mellor and Helen Skelton in the 2022 edition of the show, along with Craig Revel Horwood, Shirley Ballas, Anton Du Beke and Shirley Ballas.

But while they give their verdicts on the stars’ takes on the American Smooth and the Cha Ch Cha on bi-weekly programmes, she admitted they don’t interact much outside the show.

When asked if the fabulous four hang out, she said: ‘No. None of that.

‘There are some moments where you write “happy birthday” or something like that.’

Motsi, who was also a judge on the German edition of the BBC flagship programme explained there was a ‘basis of friendship’ with her co-stars, and insisted that her relationship with the UK judges was ‘different.’

‘There’s so much pressure – it’s prime time, so you get in, you do the job and everybody just wants to go home,’ she added to The Telegraph.

Meanwhile, Oti has pursuing a career as a TV judge, putting in appearances in shiny floor shows like Dancing on Ice and The Masked Dancer.

She is also rumoured to be fronting a brand new quiz show called The Tower, a programme like no other ‘set in a unique world,’ where general knowledge will be tested ‘to the max.’

The Graham Norton Show airs on Friday on BBC One at 10.40pm.
