Following Liz Truss’s resignation, the celebs are throwing their hats into the ring to take her place, with the likes of Phillip Schofield and Emma Bunton both making bids for PM.

Truss announced that she would be stepping down as leader of the Conservative Party this week, after just 44 days in office.

Her resignation followed a disastrous short term, which included crashing the economy and the departure of both her chancellor of the exchequer and home secretary.

So, a new race to Number 10 has begun, with names including Rishi Sunak and even former PM Boris Johnson in the mix, despite the former London Mayor leaving office after a string of scandals just six weeks ago.

With who will take over being the question on everybody’s lips, former Spice Girl Emma reckons she could be the woman for the job.

Sharing a smiley snap of herself standing outside the famous black front door, the pop icon really looked like she meant business.

She wrote in her light-hearted tweet: ‘Am I gonna have to sort this s**t out?!?!’, followed by the hashtag BabyForPM and, of course, a peace sign emoji.

Fans are totally here for her bid for leadership, telling her she’s ‘got my vote.’

Another follower was calling for all the Spice Girls to unite and make up the next cabinet and, honestly, we’d be down.

‘Scary for Chancellor. Posh for the Foreign Office. Sporty for Culture and Geri at Defence. I’m in,’ they tweeted.

Meanwhile, This Morning presenter Phillip is also willing to get the country back on its feet.

Schofe shared a rainy snap of him talking to cameras outside Downing Street, and he seemed to fit right in with his smart attire.

He joked in his caption: ‘Ok then, surely even I couldn’t make this s**t any worse?!’

The daytime host’s cheeky caption seems to reference the recent backlash he received along with co-star Holly Willoughby after viewers accused them of jumping the queue to see Queen Elizabeth II lying in state following her death.

ITV viewers and social media users alike were outraged, despite the award-winning presenters apologising and insisting they did not jump the line, with one even starting a petition to get them fired.

Elsewhere, the one and only Piers Morgan also reckons it’s ‘time’ for him to be the country’s leader which, as you can imagine, is a statement that wasn’t exactly met with the warmest response.

Twitter was divided when the controversial broadcaster declared Truss’ time in power a ‘shambles’ and urged Sunak to ‘seize the moment’ and succeed her as Prime Minister.

‘These are serious times and we need a serious & competent Prime Minister,’ he penned, before tweeting a snap of himself outside Number 10.

‘It may be time,’ said the former Good Morning Britain host, but not everyone was so enthusiastic about his comical bid for PM.

‘You can’t even get viewers these days wouldn’t try your luck trying to score vote,’ one follower replied, referencing the serious dip in ratings Piers’ channel TalkTV has experienced since its launch.

‘I’d honestly move to a different country,’ added one dramatic Twitter user.

It remains to be seen who will take over from Truss, but a successor is expected to be announced in the coming days.
