While Strictly Come Dancing isn’t a political show by any means, host Claudia Winkleman just had to make a reference to the recent chaos in Downing Street.
The presenter made a cheeky joke about the resignation of Liz Truss on Saturday night’s show, which saw celebrities and their pro partners dance to iconic BBC theme tunes in celebration of the broadcaster’s 100th anniversary.
With routines to the Casualty, Doctor Who, and The Apprentice theme songs, it truly was an iconic week, with Hamza Yassin and Helen Skelton both scoring highly.
But in between the whacky performances for the BBC’s birthday bash, there’s always time for comedy and a cheeky dig at the government… right, Claudia?
Truss announced on Thursday that she is stepping down as Prime Minister, with the likes of Rishi Sunak and even former PM Boris Johnson in the running to become the next Conservative Party leader.
Referencing the madness of Truss resigning after 44 days in office and becoming the shortest-serving Prime Minister in history, Claudia introduced children’s TV presenter Hamza with a sly remark.

‘Still to come, Hamza [Yassin] takes on a tricky ballroom dance and if he’s any good at leading, the country’s got a job for him,’ she quipped, earning a laugh from the audience and fellow Strictly stars.
Of course, fans at home picked up on her comment, with one tweeting: ‘Claudia making a dig at the Tories? No choice but to stan.’
‘Ooh Claudia with a bit of controversy there,’ joked another.
‘Claudia doing political satire. We love to see it!’, praised a third.

Actually, this isn’t the first time Claudia has made a cheeky political gag on Strictly as, just weeks ago, she referenced the pound dropping to an all-time low.
Announcing that presenter Tyler West and his Aussie pro partner Dianne Buswel would be playing the roles of ‘bank robbers’ for their jive, Claudia had some advice on what currency they should be targeting.

The race is now on to Number 10 once more, with a new leader of the Tories expected to be announced within the coming days,
