Actor Nick Kroll has spoken out about all the ‘insane’ Don’t Worry Darling drama that took place during the film’s press tour.

The comedian, 44, who plays Dean, the husband of Olivia Wilde’s Bunny in the film, recently shared his experience while on the film’s now-infamous press tour.

‘The Don’t Worry Darling trailer came out, and people were excited about it. People have been thinking about this movie for a while,’ he told The Hollywood Reporter.

‘Then all of the mishegas happens, the drama around the movie started to take hold, and I was not a part of any of that… I just wasn’t doing press at that point,’ he explained while adding that he didn’t miss the supposed drama once he attended the Venice Film Festival.

‘”Ohhhh, I think people might be interested in this,”’ he said, once the penny dropped. “And I was right.”

The drama, in a nutshell was that the film’s premiere was plagued by speculation of an alleged fallout between director Olivia Wilde and star Florence Pugh (it was rumoured to have been around The Wonder star’s apparent disapproval at the relationship between Olivia and co-star Harry Styles).

Then, there was the disagreement over Shia LaBeouf’s 2020 exit from production, and how could you forget the internet theory that Harry Styles, who took over Shia’s role, spat on Chris Pine at the 2022 Venice Film Festival? (He didn’t though).

The rumours only amped up when Pugh limited her promotion of the film, missing the press conference at Venice Film Festival, although it was said this was down to filming commitments on Dune 2.

‘And all the insanity, so much of it was nonsense,’ the Parks and Recreation star added. ‘We made it in the thick of COVID, pre-vaccine, when L.A. was an epicenter and it was incredibly stressful.’

‘However, when we were actually working and when I was hanging out with the other people making the movie, I had a blast.’

Booksmart director Olivia, 38, previously spoke out against rumours of a rift on her film set and heaped praise on Florence in interviews when discussing Don’t Worry Darling, recently telling Vanity Fair: ‘Florence did the job I hired her to do, and she did it exquisitely.

‘She blew me away. Every day I was in awe of her, and we worked very well together.

‘It is ironic that now, with my second film – which is again about the incredible power of women, what we’re capable of when we unite, and how easy it is to strip a woman of power by using other women to judge and shame them – we’re talking about this.’
