James Corden has been spotted publicly for the first time since he was banned from a New York restaurant for alleged ‘nasty’ behaviour.

The 44-year-old looked sombre behind dark sunglasses, dressed in a black blazer and T-shirt, completing the look with sunglasses and a black cap.

He was unsmiling behind his steering wheel as he set out in his car after claiming he had done ‘nothing wrong’ at the restaurant.

The Late Late Show host – who has said he expects to talk about the controversy on Monday’s episode of his programme in the US – was banned from a New York restaurant this week for allegedly being ‘nasty’ to waiting staff.

Although the actor and presenter reportedly apologised to the owner after news of his behaviour went viral and has since been unbanned, the online reaction has been strong in the days since.

Speaking to the New York Times, James insisted he never considered cancelling the interview amid the backlash, saying: ‘I haven’t done anything wrong, on any level. So why would I ever cancel this? I was there,’ he said, when asked directly if he was aware of the reaction to the apparent incident.

‘I haven’t really read anything. It’s strange. It’s strange when you were there. I think I’m probably going to have to talk about it on Monday’s show,’ he added.

‘My feeling, often, is, never explain, never complain. But I’ll probably have to talk about it.’

The Cats star was subsequently ‘unbanned’ after apparently calling restaurant owner Keith McNally to express remorse.

‘James Corden just called me and apologized profusely,’ the restauranteur wrote in an Instagram post. ‘Having f****d up myself more than most people, I strongly believe in second chances,’ he said on Instagram.

‘So if James Corden lets me host his Late Late Show for 9 months, I’ll immediately rescind his ban from Balthazar,’ he joked, before adding that James was welcome back to the restaurant.

He said later he ’felt sorry’ for the star amid the backlash. ‘On the one hand, he was definitely abusive to my staff, on the other hand, I feel really sorry for him right now. Like most cowards I want it both ways.’

Ryanair even got in on the drama and appeared to then ‘ban’ the Gavin and Stacey star from its budget flights, though First Dates star Fred Sirieix has said he feels the matter should have been handled ‘in private’ and not on social media.

‘A lot of people complain or they make comments, but for me, my feeling is that the guest is king,’ the chef said.

‘The guest pays the wages and it’s because of the guest that you are here so I think, I’m not here to judge them, I don’t have to like them either, I’m here to look after them, make sure they have a great experience, and when they leave they’re gonna tell all their friends that it’s a great restaurant and they’re gonna come back.’
