Strictly Come Dancing’s Craig Revel Horwood revealed that former judge Bruno Tonioli wished for a celebratory exit, after 18 years on the panel.

Ahead of this year’s series starting later this month, the Italian cheorgrapher’s permanent departure from the show was confirmed, with Anton Du Beke taking his seat with fellow judges Craig, Motsi Mabuse and head judge Shirley Ballas.

Bruno, 66, revealed that he would not be returning to the annual BBC show after missing last year’s series due to Covid travel restrictions,

Speaking about his departure at the time, he said: It’s absolutely my decision and I think Anton has done a fantastic job and deserves to be on that seat.’

But, according to Craig, Bruno wished his exit had a sprinkle of razzle-dazzle.

‘Bruno just wished he had more of a fanfare because it sort of just dwindled out, which is a shame because of Covid,’ he told The Sun.

Bruno has held a spot on the Dancing With The Stars panel since its launch in 2005, resulting in frequent flying back and forth between the UK and the US while both shows were running.

‘I just couldn’t do the flying any more,’ he added to The Daily Mail.

‘I don’t know how I survived that schedule. To be honest, it’s a miracle.

‘I have no idea what it did to my health, don’t go there!’

Strictly viewers poked fun at Bruno’s exit during Movie Week, as the pro dancers performed an energetic number to Encanto’s We Don’t Talk About Bruno.

‘The irony of not talking about Bruno on #Strictly lost on none of us,’ one person tweeted.

‘Bit of a missed opportunity not having Bruno in that dance,’ someone else remarked.

Last night’s Strictly saw the remaining celebrities pay tribute to BBC classics, as the broadcaster celebrated 100 years.

Couples danced to theme songs from various shows, and we had everything from a Blue Peter Charleston to a Casualty tango.

However, it was Helen Skelton and Hamza Yassin who found themselves at the top of the leaderboard, narrowly missing out on those perfect scores of 40.

Strictly Come Dancing returns on Saturday at 6:50pm on BBC One.
