Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson has publicly praised his former co-star Brendan Fraser once more over his latest film performance, saying he hopes it wins him an Oscar.
Dwayne, who is currently promoting his new DC superhero movie Black Adam, in which he takes on the titular role in casting that has been a long time coming according to the star himself, is currently one of the highest-paid actors in Hollywood.
His career has included smash hits like Jungle Cruise and animation Moana for Disney, as well as appearances in the Fast and Furious franchise and the Jumanji remake.
However, it all started for Dwayne with his turn as the Scorpion King in 2001’s The Mummy returns, the second outing in Brendan’s popular Mummy franchise, in which he starred as dashing adventurer and leading man Rick O’Connell.
It appears as though the stars remain as supportive of each other over 20 years later too, as Dwayne shared his excitement over Brendan’s acclaimed performance in upcoming film The Whale, in which he plays a 600lb recluse.
The role has already seen Brendan blessed with glowing reviews, standing ovations and an influential pre-Oscars award for his acting – and Dwayne is rooting for him to go the distance in the upcoming awards season.

‘I’m so happy for this resurgence and for this recognition and acknowledgement of him getting his flowers,’ Dwayne told MTV News.
‘I want him to go all the way, man. I want to see him on that Oscar stage, and hold that sucker up, and deliver, I’m sure, what will be an amazing speech.’
Before his part in The Mummy Returns, Dwayne had never acted outside of WWE, where he was one of the entertainment brand’s biggest stars.
The 50-year-old has previously shared his gratitude over Brendan’s generosity in inviting him to be a part of the franchise – which saw him get his own movie, The Scorpion King, the following year.

After reports of the six-minute standing ovation Brendan got at the Venice Film Festival world premiere of The Whale, Dwayne tweeted: ‘Man this makes me so happy to see this beautiful ovation for Brendan,’ the former WWE megastar wrote. ‘He supported me coming into his Mummy Returns franchise for my first ever role, which kicked off my Hollywood career.’
‘Rooting for all your success brother and congrats to my bud Darren Aronofsky,’ he added.

Brendan has recently indicated that he would be up for a fourth Mummy film after Tom Cruise’s 2017 reboot for Universal ‘lacked fun’.
‘I don’t know how it would work,’ he confessed to Variety. ‘But I’d be open to it if someone came up with the right conceit.’
Black Adam is in cinemas now, with The Whale set for release in the US on December 9.
