Kanye West alleges that he birthed the idea for Quentin Tarantino’s hit film Django Unchained.

The rapper has sparked fierce criticism over the past few weeks, having recently apologised for his anti-semitic comments after threatening to go ‘Defcon 3 on Jewish people’.

He is also being sued for £221million over comments made about George Floyd’s death.

But it looks like West’s bold claims are showing no sign of slowing down as in a recent interview on Piers Morgan Uncensored, he declared that Django Unchained was his idea.

‘Tarantino can write a movie about slavery where – actually him and Jamie, they got the idea from me because the idea for Django, I pitched to Jamie Foxx and Quentin Tarantino as the video for Gold Digger,’ West told the presenter.

‘And then Tarantino turned it into a film.’

West’s hit Gold Digger was released in 2005, with Tarantino’s movie coming out seven years later in 2012.

Django Unchained follows a freed slave (played by Foxx) working with a bounty hunter (Christoph Waltz) to rescue his wife from a plantation.

Tarantino and Foxx haven’t yet publicly responded to West’s claims.

Elsewhere in the interview, West talked about how free speech exists with context, referencing the film’s slave master (Leonard DiCaprio) using racial slurs in the film and not being deemed a racist.

‘But in that film, he puts a context,’ he said. ‘He creates a context where Leonardo DiCaprio is allowed to use the [N-word] multi- multiple times, within that context.’

Earlier this month, West sparked outrage when he made an appearance on the US podcast Drink Champs and claimed Mr Floyd was killed by a fentanyl overdose, in contrast to a medical examiner’s evidence.

Mr Floyd, a black man, died in 2020 after police officer Derek Chauvin knelt on his neck for nine minutes in Minneapolis, Minnesota – footage of which was shared around the world online.

His cause of death was ruled as a homicide and it sparked global protests. Chauvin was convicted of murder and manslaughter and given a 22-and-a-half jail sentence in 2021.

Lawyers representing Mr Floyd’s family have issued a cease and desist letter to West and said his comments were a ‘repugnant attempt to discount George Floyd’s life and to profit from his inhumane death’.

West now faces a $250million (£221million) lawsuit.
