Lewis Capaldi has met his fair share of the rich and famous and he’s come to the conclusion that ‘there’s a huge problem in music’ of egotistical celebrities.

The Someone You Loved hitmaker has teamed up with his real life bestie Niall Horan to take a road trip to the former One Direction star’s hometown of Mullingar, Ireland, with the adventure captured for one-off Amazon Prime Video documentary, Homecoming.

In the special, the musicians visit the Guinness Storehouse and meet with world class guitar maker George Lowden as well as local Dublin busker Jacob Koopman.

Niall is actually one of the few A-listers who Lewis counts among his actual friends, having realised that it’s difficult to forge genuine friendships in the showbiz industry.

Speaking to Metro.co.uk about his celeb pals – lackthereof – Lewis said: ‘The egos on a lot of people are f*****g out of control. What I’ve found is the people at the top are the nicest people because they’ve got nothing to prove.

‘I find in this middle section there’s a lot of ego, there’s a lot of people who either want something out of a friendship as in, let’s just go to the pub and we don’t have to post about it, it’s not like an “I want to be seen being friends with you” etc.

‘There’s such a huge problem in music and I think it leaves you feeling quite isolated and quite a bad taste in your mouth in general.’

Lewis explained that he’s ‘grateful’ to have met Niall so early in his career as there are ‘few and far between genuine friends’, but it means he went into the industry assuming they’d all be like the Nice To Meet Ya singer.

‘There’s few and far between genuine friends and don’t get me wrong, there are nice people in music, but everyone’s at different stages of their life so to find someone your age who’s a genuinely sound person who you can actually spend time with, and it doesn’t have to be about making music or let’s do this together, so I’m truly really grateful to have met Niall, especially early on,’ Lewis said.

He then quipped: ‘Niall kind of ruined a lot of people for me because I was like, Niall’s great, he’s just a totally chilled guy and everyone must be like that, and then you meet a lot of other people and you’re like, no actually… there’s a lot of c***s in this game and Niall’s definitely not one of them.

‘It’s just something I feel quite passionately about. It reinforces that there are nice people about.’

Niall shared Lewis’ sentiments and chimed in: ‘I agree. There is this unwritten thing where famous people should be friends but they’re very rarely actual friendships, it’s kind of like this thing you do and say hello to people. I don’t really have many famous friends.’

Homecoming will be available to view on Prime Video in the following countries starting from 8pm on October 21 BST, and October 22 for USA, UK, Australia, Canada, Mexico, Spain, Germany, Austria and Italy. To find out more, visit the Guinness website for details.
