The final series of DC’s The Flash looks set to go out with a bang with a series of surprises for fans.

The hit Netflix series is set to end with its ninth installment but not without some twists and turns to give die-hard fans, and the show, the send-off it deserves.

Grant Gustin will return as the titular character alongside the likes of Candice Patton, Danielle Nicolet, Kayla Compton, and Brandon McKnight.

Fans have already been trying to predict what the final series may have in store, with one DC character rumoured to be swapping one superhero costume for another in The Flash.

Canadagraphs shared set photos from The Flash season 9 that seem to reveal that Batwoman star Javicia Leslie will portray Red Death in the final series of The Flash.

The actress was spotted in costume alongside Grant Gustin’s Scarlet Speedster and Paul Anthony as Rainbow Rider.

Red Death is a DC villain combining Batman and the Flash, an alternate version of Bruce Wayne who was traumatised by the death of his sidekick Robin.

After harnessing the power of Speed Force and absorbing Earth-52’s Flash, he becomes the Red Death.

Red Death has already been name-dropped in the Arrowverse during series 5 episode Memoribilia, in which Central City police captain David Singh says: ‘Cicada killed more people than Zoom or even the Red Death.’

In the comic books, the arrival of Red Death sparks an emotional battle between Justice League allies Bruce Wayne and Barry Allen.

However, the introduction of Leslie as the character suggests the series will be altering the character’s backstory and potentially their character arc in the future.

Leslie’s outing as the twisted caped crusader follows the cancellation of Batwoman in April this year.

Batwoman had run for three series, with Leslie replacing Ruby Rose as the show’s titular character in series 2.

The Flash season 9 does not yet have a release date but is expected to air in early 2023.
