Matt Goss says he was ‘visited by his mum’s ghost’ after his stint finished on Strictly Come Dancing.

The former Bros star, 54, lost his mum Carol Philips to cancer in 2014 but revealed that after he was eliminated from the BBC dancing competition earlier this month she appeared before him ‘about five times’ that night.

‘The night after I left Strictly I didn’t want to watch the show and I just wanted to be in my own bubble,’ he admitted. ‘I was getting streams of messages from people and that night I just lay in the dark listening to music.’

Explaining the set of circumstances that led him to believe his late mother was visiting him, he added: ‘A bag fell off a shelf. And then I said, “Mum is that you? If it’s you, can the music stop?” And then the music stopped. Then it came back on and did it again. It happened about five times.’

The When Will I be Famous? singer, who was partnered with Nadiya Bychkova on the show but was axed following a dance-off with former Coronation Street star Kym Marsh and Graziano di Prima in week four, added that he ‘knew’ it was the ghost of his late mother.

He told The Sun newspaper that ‘this incredible, warm feeling came over me’, which he saw as a sign that ‘everything would be OK’ as he revealed that Strictly had been ‘pretty uncomfortable’ and ‘much more difficult than I thought it would be’.

The Monday after his elimination, Matt took to Twitter to thank fans for their support and kindness as he confessed it made him ‘very emotional’.

‘I came on social media not knowing what to expect and I am completely humbled, and to be honest with you, very emotional at the outpouring and kindness that I have received. We are all complex, thank you for recognizing my heart,’ he wrote.

‘Strictly was out of my comfort zone but I did gain so much from the experience.

‘This moment alone… reading your comments has given me a sense of deep comfort. It was an incredibly big decision to come back to the UK. Thank you for making me feel like I’m home.’

He had been based in the US for more than a decade before making the snap decision to sell off all his possessions and return to London earlier this year.

Since his axing from Strictly, comedienne Jayde Adams and her partner Karen Hauer have since been eliminated after failing to impress the judges and viewers enough with their Charleston to The Ballad of Barry and Freda (Let’s Do It), by late BBC comedy legend Victoria Wood during the 100 Years of the BBC special.

Following her exit, Jayde said: ‘This has been the best thing I have ever done in my life and I will carry it to my grave, and it has been an absolute pleasure working with you [Karen] and learning about so much that will go into my own stuff, in my own work.’
