Stormzy’s mum labels him a ‘miracle baby’ after revealing she was actually on the pill when he was conceived.

Tonight’s first episode of Louis Theroux’s new interview series features the Blinded rapper opening up and candidly discussing his breakup with ex Maya Jama, while also inviting Louis into the recording sessions of his third album, his home and taking us to church.

In one clip from the series, Louis meets Stormzy’s mum, Abigail, who reveals a pretty big revelation.

When asked by Louis if Stormzy ‘was always a bit special’, she replies: ‘Yes! He was a miracle.’

Abigail continues: ‘I got pregnant with him, I was on the pill.’

A stunned Stormzy replies: ‘Oh wow, I didn’t even know that!’

‘Because I never tell you,’ Abigail adds.

‘You can tell from when he was growing up, he was so talented,’ she gushes.

Stormzy has previously shared his close bond with his mum in a sweet tribute when he received his honorary degree from the University of Exeter.

The 28-year-old grime superstar had his fellow graduates in peals of laughter when he joked: ‘I am going up in the world. I am a philanthropist now.’

In a sweet moment, he said he couldn’t finish his speech without giving a ‘shout-out’ to his mum, Abigail, who was sitting in the crowd.

‘It’s always been her biggest dream for me to go to university and graduate and then become somebody so this moment is a real full-circle one,’ he added.

Elsewhere during the interview series, Stormzy talks about his painful split from recently-announced Love Island presenter Maya, but says it ‘helped him grow’.

The former couple, who got together before either became well known in the public eye, ended their four-year romance in 2019 after the Big For Your Boots hitmaker says he ‘made a mistake.’

Speaking to Louis, Stormzy says their split enabled him to grow up and focus on what he wanted in life. Nonetheless, he called the end of the relationship, ‘the biggest loss a man can have.’

‘My break-up, that was probably the biggest catalyst for growth as a man,’ Stormzy, 29, said in quotes obtained by The Sun.

‘It was like, OK, you made a mistake and you lose someone you loved, someone you cared for, someone who is special to you. Away from someone passing away, that’s the biggest loss you can have.’

While he didn’t go into the reasoning behind the split, he admitted he didn’t appreciate his former partner at the time.

‘There were other things in terms of mistakes I’d made,’ he admitted. ‘I didn’t do what a man should do to fully appreciate, love and care for his woman,’ but added that he had learned from his mistakes and would be a better partner if love came around again.

‘Long story short, I learned that if I don’t want to feel like that again, and if I believe that God will bless me again with an amazing woman and a family and marriage and all of that kind of thing, I have to do all the necessary work to never be in that situation again,’ he said.

Louis Theroux Interviews airs Tuesdays at 9pm on BBC One.
