Young Sheldon star Iain Armitage shared an adorable photo of his reunion with actor Jim Parsons, who originated their shared role of Sheldon Cooper on The Big Bang Theory.

Delighting fans with their matching beams, Iain shared the photo of them together on His Instagram, taken when he went to see his co-star in an Off-Broadway production of A Man of No Importance.

Jim, 49, who narrates and executive produces on Iain’s show, having shot to fame as the original Sheldon, placed his arm around Iain as they leaned their heads together to pose for a selfie in the empty New York City studio theatre.

‘And here is the whole reason I went to NYC! It’s one of my favourite places to go in the autumn, so I’m always looking for an excuse to get there,’ the 14-year-old, who has also starred in Big Little Lies, wrote in the caption.

‘When I heard that @therealjimparsons was appearing on stage in @classicstage‘s production of Man of No Importance, I knew I had to get there. I ended up sitting in the front row for a preview performance and it was so, so, so great!’

Praising his TV alter ego, Iain continued: ‘Jim is astonishing and he’s surrounded by an incredible cast. Honestly, I want to go back and see it all again! Have you seen it? Will you get to? Please let me know!’

The youngster added that ‘you’ve never seen Jim Parsons in a role like this’ as he explained a bit about the musical, which tells the story of an amateur theatre group in 1960s Dublin and their leader, bus driver Alfie Byrne.

He added: ‘I feel so lucky and happy that I got to go! “You just have to love who you love.” – Alfie. Also, I was so happy to see Jim again!!!’

People were delighted to see the duo hanging out together, with Annie Potts, who plays Meemaw – Sheldon’s mum – on Young Sheldon leaving a string of heart emoji in the comments.

Fans could barely contain their excitement either, with one exclaiming: ‘SHELDON AND SHELDON OMGGGG,’ while another wrote: ‘This picture will become legendary.’

Iain has been playing the young Sheldon Cooper in The Big Bang Theory spin-off – which finished in 2019 after 12 seasons – since 2017, with the sixth season currently airing on CBS in the US.

A seventh season is in the works.

On Tuesday, Iain paid tribute to Leslie Jordan after the popular actor died after suffering a medical emergency while driving aged 67.

His show Call Me Kat filmed very near to where Jim records Young Sheldon and the star said that although he didn’t know Jordan that well he ‘adored’ him.

‘I’m grateful for the sunshine and the joy, and I’m thinking of every one of those people he clearly loved so much,’ he wrote.

Jim’s former TBBT co-star Mayim Bialik, who played Amy on the show, is the lead on Call Me Kat, the US version of British sitcom Miranda.

She confirmed that filming had been suspended on the series as the cast and crew ‘took time to grieve and to celebrate the many gifts Leslie gave to us and the entire world’.

Jim is also an executive producer on Call Me Kat.
