As the United Kingdom welcomes its third Prime Minister in seven weeks, the Loose Women panel are divided over whether Rishi Sunak is the man for the job.

Discussing the latest political development on Tuesday’s episode, the ongoing political turmoil also came to a head between Carol McGiffin and Gloria Hunniford as they disagreed.

Sunak officially became the third Prime Minister of 2022 on Tuesday after winning the brief Tory leadership contest on Monday, selected strictly by MPs and not even Tory members.

He replaced Liz Truss after her record-breaking 44 day stint, who took over from Boris Johnson who resigned after backlash from his own MPs and ministers.

When chatting about the new leader, Gloria put her support behind Sunak, saying that she thought he ‘breathes confidence in his own way and he handles himself very well’.

‘I am very glad that somebody is in as Prime Minister and is likely to stay in for a while and we need that stability.

‘Overall I think we need that bit of confidence and I believe it is going to improve, please it is going to approve,’ she added, as members of the studio audience clapper and cheered.

However, Carol jumped in and quickly shut her down, saying that she didn’t agree with ‘any of that’.

‘I don’t have any confidence or feel inspired at all. I feel let down and disillusioned,’ she said.

‘He was not voted for, he was rejected completely, by the party and everybody.’

She didn’t mince her words when calling for a general election, saying that ‘we need a new party and new people’.

‘As far as I’m concerned, all politicians are the same,’ she said.

‘All the MPs, bar a very few noble exceptions are in it for the wrong reasons, and reasons I’m probably not allowed to go into on this show, but I have no faith in any of them.’

When asked if she might consider a tilt in politics, she doubled down.

‘I’m too honest, there is no way I would be a politician. You have to be a scheming. . . liar,’ she said after a moment’s hesitation, before the segment quickly wrapped up before she had the chance to add anything that might get her into even more hot water.

Loose Women airs weekdays at 12.30pm on ITV.
