Dina Asher-Smith has spoken out about her cameo appearance in the music video for Stormzy’s Mel Made Me Do It.

The British athlete, who is the fastest British woman on record, featured as one of many, many famous faces in the video which has now hit five million views on YouTube.

In her segment of the video – which also featured Jose Mourinho and Usain Bolt, among others – she appeared alongside Louis Theroux and Jonathon Ross.

Ross, 61, turns to Stormzy and asks ‘What’s on your mind right now?’ before the UK hip hop star enters another verse of his hit.

Asher-Smith, who won the sports personality award at last night’s glamorous Ethnicity Awards, spoke to Metro.co.uk after the event.

She gave a glowing review of her experience: ‘It was really special, obviously, Stormzy is such a great artist and such a great guy, and so talented.’

She continued on to say that she couldn’t say no when the offer came through, and that she believed many of the video’s famous names couldn’t either.

Asher-Smith explained: ‘I think [Stormzy] represents so much for all of us, all the Black community, and if he wants people in a video you’re gonna make yourself available and make it work.’

At the time, Metro.co.uk’s Alicia Adejobi said: ‘If there was any doubt that Stormzy could be considered a superstar artist, the sheer response to Mel Made Me Do It should settle that.’

The video featured appearances from Mercury Prize winner Little Simz, former footballer Ian Wright, and writer Malorie Blackman.

After beating Bukayo Saka and Sir Mo Farah to the sports award, Asher-Smith said that she was shocked to see certain faces when she finally sat down to watch the video upon its release.

‘I didn’t know Usain Bolt was in [the video]. I met quite a few of them before, but I remember watching the video and it’s great to be part of something like that.’

She also revealed that she had no idea just how long the video was going to be or how much content it was going to be full of.

‘I didn’t realise it was going to be 10 mins. It was mindblowing.’
