Etiquette expert, Lucy Challenger, knows exactly what you should be wearing to job interviews and to work.
As the CEO and Founder of Polo & Tweed, a luxury domestic and corporate staffing specialist, Lucy knows what flies and what doesn’t when it comes to workwear attire.
She reveals to Fabulous: “Just rocking up in gym clothes while I’ve made an effort to get dressed won’t fly with me, you can get changed in the bathroom.
If I’ve made an effort and my time is precious you should too.”
Lucy adds that if you called up explaining you couldn’t change for an interview then it would be okay, but there are some items of clothing that won’t fit the bill.

Skinny jeans
Most people don’t want to wear jeans on the best of days but if you’re someone who likes wearing them for work then listen up.
It all depends on the style and colour of your jeans whether you can wear them to work, explains Lucy.
She said: “Light denim is informal whereas dark colours are smart.
“Straight jeans with a jacket and shirt is acceptable but really skinny jeans creep into leggings territory.”
If you must insist on wearing them make sure you wear a long top to cover your bottom so they aren’t as revealing.

Short skirts/too much cleavage
The etiquette expert says you should avoid anything too short or shows too much cleavage.
“I appreciate that some people are ample-bosomed so cleavage can be on display even if you’re just wearing a shirt, but be sensitive to the environment you’re going in.
“Also don’t draw attention to your body, draw attention to your what your saying and be remembered for your attributes rather than anything else.”

While you may want to flaunt what your mumma gave you – job interviews and work is not the place to do so.
The etiquette expert explains: “Even if you have a great flat tummy you want to show off, the job isn’t about that.”
She adds: “I am a huge Lady GaGa but turning up looking like her for an interview is probably not a wise move, so avoid crop tops.”

Leggings
Leggings are informal and something you should really only where while in the comfort of your own home.
The etiquette expert adds: “They are quite informal and revealing, and they don’t leave much to the imagination.”
“I have a pair but I wouldn’t even were them to the shop.
“It comes back to not wanting to draw attention to the wrong thing, even if you love them and feel comfortable in them it’s about and dressing for the other people you’re going to see.”

Gym wear
Of course, if you’re a personal trainer then gym wear will be your go-to outfit.
But most of us don’t work in the gym, so leave it in your gym bag when doing your 9 to 5.
“If you’re working in the city it’s not going to be acceptable to wear a tracksuit to the office,” says Lucy.
Sheer shirts
Sheer shirts can look appropriate for work – but only if you wear them a specific ways says the etiquette expert.
She adds: “If you want to wear something sheer wear something underneath it.
“You never want to see underwear on display or bra straps.
To make sure it’s appropriate for work, make sure you match the vest or top you wear underneath with the colour of the sheer shirt.
Logo tops
Any tops with lots of logos on it should be avoided in the workplace unless you’re promoting the brand.
