Sami Zayn is loving life in The Bloodline as he takes centre stage in WWE as part of the company’s top act across Raw and SmackDown.

The Honorary Uce is a key part of Roman Reigns’ family faction, and he admitted the way the storyline has developed and grown in front of the world on television has been fascinating to see first hand.

He exclusively told Metro.co.uk: ‘You might have an idea of where this is going, but then certain things might hit, and certain things might not that take it in a whole different direction.

‘I think one huge aspect of this storyline with the Bloodline, to give you an example, that kind of took a lifeline of its one was this whole interaction with Jey.

‘I don’t know if that was ever the big starting point plan, “Oh well we’ll have this huge rift between these two guys”. I don’t know if that’s really what we set out to do at the beginning. It snowballed!’

This means the former Intercontinental Champion is also getting to enjoy the rollercoaster storyline in a ‘similar’ way to the fans, even if he’s on the other side of the curtain.

‘I get to appreciate it, “Where are we gonna take this? Where’s it gonna go?” I have a very similar… I’m kind of along for the ride as well, even as a performer. It just has a slightly different context, obviously, from when I’m a fan,’ he added.

‘But it’s the same thing where we’re all going through it together and we’re all going to see where it goes next together.’

Part of that journey for viewers has been enjoying the unique interactions and relationships Sami has with each member of The Bloodline, which is made up of Roman, his cousins Jimmy and Jey Uso, their younger brother Solo Sikoa, and the Wiseman Paul Heyman.

Typically more of a serious act, the Master Strategist’s inclusion as given things a more interesting slant, even if his funnier moments leave some of the other stars struggling to stay in character on air.

‘Everything in moderation right? You don’t want it to be every week to where it just doesn’t look like people are taking it seriously, or it breaks characters and takes you out of it,’ he laughed, comparing it to comedians bursting out laughing on Saturday Night Live.

‘It would make you laugh extra hard, but then it got to a point where I remember being a fan of Saturday Night Live, and there’s Sandler or Jimmy Fallon and they’re always laughing and you’re like, “Yeah man, well do your job,”‘ he said.

‘You’re not supposed to laugh! How hard is it?! You’re a comedy performer, you’re not supposed to laugh when we’re laughing.’

However, Sami understands why fans enjoy those genuine moments on the show, as they can see how much the WWE superstars themselves are enjoying their time at work.

‘I think really what fans are appreciating with seeing little chinks in the armour here and there is it kinda reminds you that we’re having fun doing it as as well, that’s all,’ he smiled. ‘But I think it needs to be sparing, and we’re professionals and we’re trying to tell a story here.’

The story itself is a fascinating one, combining emotional moments – such as Sami earning his spot as the Honorary Uce – amid the drama and hilarity, with the former Conspiracy Theorist thriving on the variety.

‘I think it is coming through the screen. It’s pretty apparent that I’m enjoying myself! I feel like that’s not totally new, I’ve been really enjoying myself the past couple of years especially,’ he pointed out.

‘But this stuff with the Bloodline has been particularly great I think, just the reception from the audience has been unanimously positive. Part of it has also been the real life chemistry that I have with all of those guys.’

Pointing to the ‘dynamics’ he shares with ‘each different member’, Sami admitted he’s also loving getting to work as part of ‘the top act with the top guy in the company’.

‘And I think I bring a different dimension to what was going on with the Bloodline. It’s obviously a very serious programme – when you’re at the top it’s usually quite serious, and I think my character has brought a bit of a lightness to it without turning it into an outright joke or anything like that,’ he added.

‘You just mix all that together, it’s a can’t miss formula! That’s what I like as a fan, so that’s what I try to put out when I perform.’

WWE SmackDown airs Friday nights at 1am on BT Sport 1. WWE returns to the UK at Glasgow’s OVO Hydro on October 30.
