Florence Pugh has said she started to regret pursuing an acting career after Hollywood moguls told her to ‘change’ her ‘weight and look.’
The 26-year-old has had a steady ascent to the upper echelons of the acting world after she made her debut in mystery film The Falling, which also starred Game of Thrones’ Maisie Williams.
The Oxford-born star then made waves for her leading role in indie movie Lady Macbeth, and other Shakespeare movies, before winning acclaim in BBC drama The Little Drummer Girl.
On the big screen, Florence portrayed wrestler Paige in Fighting with My Family before going on to star in horror Midsommar and Little Women, for which she was nominated for an Oscar.
However, Florence, who recently split up from Zach Braff, has said during her early career she feared she had made a ‘mistake’ after jetting out to LA for pilot season.
While in the States, the Don’t Worry Darling star was cast as an up-and-coming popstar in a series, before being dropped from the project.
Florence said: ‘All the things that they were trying to change about me – whether it was my weight, my look, the shape of my face, the shape of my eyebrows – that was so not what I wanted to do, or the industry I wanted to work in.’

She continued to The Telegraph: ‘I’d thought the film business would be like [my experience of making] The Falling, but actually, this was what the top of the game looked like, and I felt I’d made a massive mistake.’
Florence has since gone on to be a critic’s darling, winning praise for her performance in Don’t Worry Darling, directed by Olivia Wilde.

Also starring Harry Styles, the thriller was plagued by rumours of feuds behind the scene, with whispers of a blow-out between the director and her lead actress.
However, the Booksmart director has spoken out against rumors of a rift on her film set and has chosen to heap praise on her co-star in interviews when discussing Don’t Worry Darling.

She told Vanity Fair: ‘Florence did the job I hired her to do, and she did it exquisitely. She blew me away. Every day I was in awe of her, and we worked very well together.
As well as film roles, Florence has revealed she is planning to release a solo album in the future once she rebuilds her confidence as a singer.
