Good Morning Britain guest Tom Bower has been slammed for accusing Meghan Markle of being behind Prince Harry’s memoir, Spare.

During a segment debating whether Harry and Meghan should be stripped of their titles on Monday’s show, hosted by presenters Susanna Reid and Ed Balls, the royal biographer claimed she ‘dictated this agenda’.

‘He’ll keep his princely title, it’s Meghan I’m after,’ Bower scathed. ‘His book is really Meghan’s. Meghan is the person who has dictated this agenda.’

A perplexed Balls, reacted: ‘The book is by Harry? It’s not even by Meghan!’

‘Do you think he’s read it?’ Bower asked, with both presenters reminding the author that the book is from the prince.

‘Meghan has actually read every word,’ he continued. ‘Meghan is highly intelligent, very sophisticated.’

Bower continued his blistering attack on Meghan by claiming the Queen didn’t like her, adding: ‘William saw through her, Charles saw through her, Diana’s brother Charles Spencer saw through her, she was adventurous, who came here to make fame and fortune, gone back to America, is exploiting the royal title…’

Good Morning Britain viewers were furious by Bower’s comments, and were quick to criticise him for his unchallenged remarks.

One slammed: ‘Tom Bower on TV saying with his chest what we all know, “I don’t mind Harry it is Meghan I am after”. Thank you @ITV and @GMB for continuing to platform this racist, sexist, misogynistic excuse of a human being. And don’t @ me with “it’s not about her race”.’

Absolutely disgusting #GMB

@GMB whilst I’m no fan of Megan Markle, Tom Bower admitting ‘it’s her I’m after’ made me feel very uncomfortable. By all means call out ‘inaccuracies’ in interviews, books, podcasts, etc BUT the vitriol with which he made that statement was sinister and disgusting.

So, his issue is with Meghan Markle and NOT what Harry has read in his book… Speaks volumes #GMB

@GMB you really should be ashamed of yourself, giving airtime to a man who clearly has a frankly bizarre hatred for a woman he doesn’t even know. Then again you happily had Piers bully Meghan on a daily basis #gmb #GoodMorningBritain https://t.co/aGx7pCq9yk

#GMB ohhh It’s Meghan I am after….say no more bower.

They added: ‘Like explain to me how a book written by Harry gives Tom Bower the right to attack Meghan. The silver lining is we have a “royal biographer” confirming the smear campaign.’

The Duke of Sussex’s highly anticipated memoir, titled Spare, will be released globally on January 10.

It was expected to hit bookshelves this autumn but there has been speculation that the date was pushed back as a mark of respect following the death of the Queen, and it is rumoured to make changes to the publication and remove potentially damaging material.

The memoir will be published by Penguin Random House and the book will take readers ‘immediately back to one of the most searing images of the 20th century: two young boys, two princes, walking behind their mother’s coffin as the world watched in sorrow – and horror’.

‘As Diana, Princess of Wales, was laid to rest, billions wondered what the princes must be thinking and feeling – and how their lives would play out from that point on,’ a press release for the memoir said.

‘For Harry, this is his story at last,’ it continued. ‘With its raw, unflinching honesty, Spare is a landmark publication full of insight, revelation, self-examination, and hard-won wisdom about the eternal power of love over grief.’

Good Morning Britain airs weekdays at 6am on ITV.
