Gavin and Stacey star Alison Steadman shared the emotional moment she discovered her father was adopted.
The Pamela Shipman actress, 76, fronts ITV’s DNA Journey alongside former co-host Larry Lamb, which explores celebrities’ ancestry.
During Tuesday’s Good Morning Britain, Alison reflected on how she felt when she learned about her dad George Steadman’s family history.
‘My father was adopted, which I didn’t know, none of us knew in our family,’ she told presenters Ed Balls and Susanna Reid.
Actor Larry, who played Alison’s on-screen husband in the British sitcom added: ‘It knocked her sideways.’
When asked whether he thought he knew, Alison continued: ‘I don’t think he knew. No.

‘He was eight months old… and I was so glad that I had Larry with me honestly, because I was just so upset.’
The Dad’s Army actress also said she found it ‘upsetting’ that other members of her family knew but didn’t tell her father.
‘My grandmother, my aunt, my uncle they all knew [and] they didn’t tell me, but they were lovely people that’s the main thing and I love them to bits,’ she said.

‘But to find out suddenly that my grandma wasn’t my grandma as it was, was quite upsetting.’
Larry, who is also best known for playing Archie Mitchell in the BBC soap EastEnders expressd that he wen through something similar.
‘I’d found out the same sort of thing – my mother was adopted,’ he said.
‘And there was a whole chain of things that sprang off that, so I kind of got where Alison was. Mine was kind of easier to accept but Ali’s, this was a big shaking of the keystone.’

Of course fans wanted to know when the cast of Gavin and Stacey will reunite any time soon, however, former EastEnders star Larry had some bad news
Addressing whether we should expect a new episode, he said: ‘I wouldn’t hold your breath – and certainly not this Christmas!’
