People are only just realizing why you shouldn’t cut off the hanging loops on your new clothes
A CLOTHING expert has shared why you should actually keep those annoying loops inside your clothes.
Amanda, who goes by the Instagram handle @projectyourbest, showed how the satin or elastic loops can help maintain your clothes long-term.
Amanda was passionate about why you shouldn’t cut a key part of garmentsInstagram
“Have you ever cut out the hanging loops from tops or dresses?” Amanda asked in an Instagram Reel.
She pretended to begin to cut the satin loop next to the spaghetti strap of her dress before saying: “Don’t. Here’s why.”
“Hanging loops aren’t just for display in the store – they help you store your garment properly at home too,” she wrote in the caption.
“Items made of delicate or stretch fabric can develop damage when the garment’s weight rests only on the straps,” she explained.

HANG AND FOLD

“If needed, adjust the straps so the majority of the weight is supported by the hanging loops,” she added about her hack.
Amanda loosened the adjustable strap of her dress on a hanger so it fell at the same length as the hanging loop. The loop became more taut.
There was also no longer tension solely on the strap. The weight of the dress was dispersed more evenly with the additional support of the loop.
“If straps aren’t adjustable, you can either take the strap off the hanger, or shorten the hanging loop by double or triple wrapping [it],” Amanda added.

She demonstrated by looping the satin around the hanger to make it shorter and a similar length to the strap.
She added that you could also then hook the loops onto the extra holding features typically found on plastic hangers.
Amanda also addressed a solution for the common reasons why people often remove the loops: being uncomfortable or peeking out of necklines.
“To hide the loops while wearing the item, simply use a tiny safety pin or fashion tape to keep them tucked out of sight,” she suggested.

People responded with mixed reactions to her clothing hack.

Others had strong opinions on why they do choose to cut them off.
Some noted that the loops trigger their sensory issues while others agreed that they’re “so freaking annoying.”

People also said they couldn’t be bothered to deal with clothes that are so delicate that they require this hanging method. Some also admitted that they only fold their heavier clothes.
One person shared a smart alternative though. “I cut them off then throw the bottom of the dress over the hanger so the straps aren’t holding the whole weight,” they wrote.
