Former I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! star James McVey has blasted Matt Hancock’s decision to sign up for the 2022 series.
Former Health Secretary Mr Hancock has sparked national outrage after being named as the 12th campmate headed into the Australian jungle, despite being a sitting MP.
Many are furious that the politician has been given a platform, especially given that he broke his own social distancing guidelines during the pandemic, being caught on CCTV kissing aide Gina Coladangelo.
The Vamps singer McVey is the latest famous face to voice his criticism of the move, telling Good Morning Britain presenters Kate Garraway and Ben Shephard: ‘I’m surprised he thinks it’s appropriate for him to do it, to be honest.
‘You want escapism on reality TV and I think it’s a bit raw still to have him on there.

‘Advice… I think, get yourself out there.’
He continued: ‘I signed myself up for the first trial possible because I just wanted to throw myself in there so I think, you know, boredom was a big thing so staying busy and doing tasks is what I would recommend to anyone going in there.’
McVey competed in the 2018 series of I’m A Celebrity and finished in 5th place.
The bookies are already predicting that Mr Hancock will break records as the most-nominated contestant to take on the gruesome Bushtucker trials.
Referring to this, Shephard added: ‘I’m not sure he’ll have much choice about what he does and doesn’t do because I think he’ll end up doing every trial for stars.’
A number of celebrities have been vocal in their disapproval of Mr Hancock’s I’m A Celebrity signing.
Loose Women ripped into the MP on Wednesday’s show, declaring she is ‘fuming and disgusted’
‘I cannot find any humour in this appointment at all,’ she said.
Reflecting on her personal experience of the pandemic, she continued: ‘I was very vocal about Covid restrictions, some being incredibly unnecessary and the impact that would have on people’s livelihoods and mental health, and Matt Hancock was at the forefront of those.’
Piers Morgan joked that he hopes Mr Hancock ‘stays’ in the jungle.

Dubbing the politician an ‘attention-seeking, perma-grinning, gopher of a man’, he addressed how the MP will ‘spend several weeks in a jungle in Australia, pocketing a massive fee on top of his MP’s salary, eating kangaroo testicles for public delectation’.
‘I never thought I’d say this, but I actually feel sorry for the kangaroo testicles,’ he added.
I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! launches on Sunday at 9pm on ITV.
