Jennifer Lawrence has revealed her close pal Adele warned her not to star in sci-fi film Passengers, and she’s full of regret for not paying attention.
The 32-year-old actress played Aurora Lane opposite Chris Pratt in the 2016 film, directed by The Imitation Game’s Morten Tyldum, which was panned by critics at the time.
The film tells the story of two passengers on an interstellar spacecraft carrying thousands of people to a colony 60 light years from Earth who are awoken from their induced hibernation 90 years too early.
Lawrence has since said she made the wrong choice in starring in the film and felt like she misled the fanbase she had built by starring in The Hunger Games franchise.
‘I was like, ‘Oh no, you guys are here because I’m here, and I’m here because you’re here. Wait, who decided that this was a good movie?’ she told The New York Times.
She went on to say that pop sensation Adele told her not to do the film, describing space films as ‘the new vampire movies.’

‘I should have listened to her,’ she grimly concluded.
The two women are good friends, with Adele, 34, previously telling Rolling Stone that Lawrence, among a small number of other celebrity friends, ‘humanised’ her after she moved into a house near the actor in Beverly Hills.
Lawrence has previously cited Passengers as being an ill-judged career move and in 2019 she took a step back from the limelight and a break from acting.
The film holds a 30% rating on Rotten Tomatoes based on 290 reviews, with the critic’s consensus saying: ‘Passengers proves Chris Pratt and Jennifer Lawrence work well together — and that even their chemistry isn’t enough to overcome a fatally flawed story.’
On Metacritic, the film has a weighted average score of 41 out of 100, based on 48 reviews.

Despite this, it was nominated for best original score and best production design at the 89th Academy Awards.
She returned to screens last year in Adam McKay’s Netflix film Don’t Look Up, as part of an all-star cast including Leonardo DiCaprio, Meryl Streep, and Timothee Chalamet.
She is set to star in the upcoming Lila Neugebauer-directed flick Causeway, in which she plays a soldier struggling to adjust to her life after returning home to New Orleans.
The film is set for release on Apple TV+ on November 4.
