Sienna Miller has spoken out about the effect the phone hacking scandal had on her, admitting she had an ‘absolute breakdown’ after it came to light.
The actress, 40, had been one of the people targeted in the phone hacking scandal, in which employees of the now-defunct News of the World were accused of hacking phones, police bribery and exercising improper influence in the pursuit of stories.
Sienna revealed that she struggled in the aftermath of the scandal, telling British Vogue: ‘A couple of years of absolutely chaotic behaviour. I did not know which way was up or down.
‘I was, I suppose, in the midst of an absolute breakdown on every single level… Couldn’t say what had actually happened.
‘My way of dealing with that was to slightly lose it. And I did, I was running around the Vanity Fair party with no shoes on and getting really p**sed.’
She added: ‘There are some things I regret, because I wish I’d been more protected. But life was so out of control. It’s a miracle that I actually retained a career and a life.’

Sienna was awarded £100,000 in damages in 2011 after a High Court hearing in which the News Of The World admitted to hacking her phone.
She also went on to be a key figure in the Leveson Enquiry in 2011, and also accepted ‘substantial damages’ from News Group Newspapers, publishers of The Sun, in November 2021 after claims the newspaper used ‘illegal means’ to find out about her pregnancy, which the publisher denies.
Sienna was one of 15 high-profile figures who had pursued claims agains the publisher, which agreed to pay ‘substantial damages’ to each of the claimants as well as paying their legal costs.
The publisher also made public apologies to each of the claimants for the actions of the News of the World, but did not admit any liability over phone hacking allegations at The Sun.
