Low drummer and vocalist Mimi Parker dies aged 55 following battle with ovarian cancer-Stella Akinwumi-Entertainment – Metro

Mimi Parker, best known as the drummer and vocalist of rock band Low has died aged 55.
Husband and band member Alan Sparhawk confirmed the news on Twitter, with a statement reading: ‘Friends, it’s hard to put the universe into language and into a short message, but she passed away last night, surrounded by family and love, including yours.
‘Keep her name close and sacred. Share this moment with someone who needs you. Love is indeed the most important thing.’
Many tributes have been paid to Parker in the wake of her death, with American musician Steve Albini writing: ‘I heard the news in the most base circumstances, surrounded by degenerates, stuck and cursing, in a conference room in Deerfield.
‘I was momentarily overwhelmed, the sound of her voice resonant in my memory, beautiful and heartbreaking. Godspeed Mimi Parker. Requiescat.’
Scottish musician Stuart Braithwaite tweeted: ‘Absolutely heartbroken by the news about Mimi. Sending all my love to Alan and his family.’

Mimi Parker was from Minnesota; she spent her childhood in the Bemidji area and moved to Duluth for college.
Parker first played drums in her high school marching band, and began dating her future husband Sparkhawk during junior high school, according to NPR.
Sparkhawk and Parker formed Low in 1993 with original bassist John Nichols.
The band, which featured other rotating members over the years, became a household name in the rock sub-genre.

Low’s 1994 debut album, I Could Live in Hope, was met with critical acclaim, and the act went on to release 13 albums during its nearly 30-year career.
Parker is survived by her husband, Sparhawk, and their two children, Hollis and Cyrus.
