Tickets for Glastonbury 2023 go on sale later this morning, so music fans across the country will be furiously hitting refresh on their laptops.

Coach and ticket packages sold out in half-an-hour, after all.

While the festival is always popular, rumours about who could join the 2023 lineup have got fans even more desperate to be a part of the action.

Amongst the many rumours, Rihanna is hotly tipped to be headliner.

If it proves true, the Fenty founder will headline for the first time. But who has played Glastonbury more than once, and who’s performed the most?

Who has played Glastonbury the most times?

Performing at the festival an impressive eight times, Northern-Irish singer Van Morrison has performed at Glastonbury more than anyone else.

Famous for hits like Brown Eyed Girl, Van Morrison’s first appearance at the iconic festival was in 1982.

He has since appeared in 1987, 1989, 1992, 1993, 1994, 1997 and 2005.

The second most appearances – having appeared solo and with the group Elvis Costello & The Attractions – is Elvis Costello.

Performing six times over the years, he has been on the lineup for 1984, 1987, 1989, 1994, 2005 and 2013.

Following close behind are Primal Scream.

The Scottish rockers have appeared at the festival five times: 1992, 1998, 2005, 2013 and 2022.

Coldplay aren’t too far behind, either, notching up four performances. They’ve played in 2002, 2005, 2011 and 2016.

Lily Allen represents the ladies the most, having also notched up four performances over the years, in 2007, 2008, 2009 and 2014.

Who headlined the first Glastonbury?

When Michael Eavis began the now-iconic festival in 1970, it was called the Worthy Farm Pop Festival.

The Kinks were scheduled to headline – but pulled out. Instead, T.Rex, fronted by Marc Bolan, had the honour of headlining.
