Amy Schumer says last week was the ‘hardest’ week of her life as she juggled Saturday Night Live hosting duties alongside caring for her son who was hospitalised.
Gene, three, was taken to the emergency room with a respiratory virus (RSV) during the actress’ SNL rehearsals on Thursday.
Revealing last week was the ‘hardest’ of her life, she later reassured followers on Instagram that her son, who she shares with husband Chris Fischer, is now ‘home and safe’.
Showing up to carry out her hosting responsibilities, Amy shared a post explaining why filming that particular episode of the late-night sketch show was so difficult.
Alongside a behind-the-scenes snapshot and videos, Amy wrote the caption: ‘This was the hardest week of my life.
‘I missed Thursday rehearsals when my son was rushed to the ER and admitted for RSV. Shout out to all the parents going through this right now.’

The post then went on to thank the SNL crew for being supportive of the comedian’s difficult situation.
‘I got to be with him the whole day at the hospital and the beautiful humans at @nbcsnl couldn’t have been more supportive.’

The Trainwreck star let her 12.3million followers know that Gene was ‘home and better’ as she carried on expressing her gratitude to show writers and producers who worked around her hospital visits on the day of filming.
Further thanking the doctors and nurses who looked after her child, she explained: ‘My son is home and better.
‘The reason this show is so fun to do isn’t actually the performance or the show itself. It’s getting to spend time with the people there.
‘The cast and the writers of course but the people who are behind the scenes making it run smooth are my favorite.
‘The crew! Donna. Jerry. Jodi. Genna. Tom Wally and on and on. Lorne has assembled the most talented people with the kindest hearts.
‘Thank you everyone there and to the doctors and nurses who helped us. [sic]’
Despite her personal issues, the star had audiences in fits of giggles, delivering a hysterical monologue that poked at her relationship with her husband as well as Kanye West’s recent anti-Semitic comments.
