Fans were left shocked to find out that former Love Island star Olivia Attwood has had to quit the jungle after less than 24 hours.

A spokesperson said in a statement: ‘As a precautionary measure Olivia needed to leave the jungle to undergo some medical checks.

‘Unfortunately the medical team has advised it is not safe for Olivia to return to camp as there needs to be a further investigation.’

But are contestants just allowed to leave the show, and has anyone ever quit before?

Can contestants quit I’m A Celebrity?

Yes, contestants are allowed to quit the show.

This is especially true for contestants who must exit due to a health reason, like Olivia Attwood or Richard Madeley in last year’s series.

Like Olivia, the iconic presenter had to leave the jungle after a health emergency.

Last year, he told his Instagram followers: ‘Hello all! Richard here – firstly just to say that I’m absolutely FINE.

‘I started to feel briefly unwell in the small hours of the morning and was taken to hospital as a precaution.

‘By leaving the camp, I had consequently broken the Covid ‘bubble’ and as such I’ve had to leave the castle and all the wonderful celebs that remain in the camp.’

However, contestants who leave before their time reportedly risk a hefty cut to their pay cheque.

According to The Mirror, the stars have to stay in the jungle or the castle for 72 hours in order to receive their full pay.

This rule was highlighted in 2014, when reality star Gemma Collins claimed she had only been paid a cut of her original fee when she left the jungle after three days.

Following her exit from the show, Gemma revealed she was going to donate the £4,800 she made to Save The Children.

At the time, a spokesperson for Gemma responded released a statement saying: ‘The show is three weeks long and Gemma was in Australia for five days, therefore she will receive a percentage based on that.’

It was widely reported that ITV had signed Gemma up for the show for £100,000.

At the time of exiting the show, Richard has been in for more than 72 hours, and so he will likely be paid his full fees.

As previously mentioned, Gemma Collins is one of the celebrities that dramatically quit the show.

Essex’s most iconic resident lasted just three days inside the jungle.

She left in a flood of tears, claiming that she just couldn’t go on.

However, not every celebrity exit was down to a diva temperament.

Just a day after Gemma quit, Red Dwarf actor Craig Charles was given the awful news that his brother had died overnight, so he left to come home and be with his family.

The celebrity who spent the least time on the show before having to leave was former EastEnder Elaine Lordan from series 5, who collapsed twice on her first day.
