Sony has allegedly commissioned a MMO based on the Horizon franchise, with Lineage developer NCSoft supposedly signing a partnership deal.

Back in February, Sony announced plans to release 10 live service games before the end of March 2026. What it didn’t do is say what any of them would be, although The Last Of Us multiplayer spin-off is widely assumed to be the first.

As such, it’s expected that many of the biggest PlayStation franchises will also see live service spin-offs, and as we predicted back in September one of them is the Horizon series.

However, rather being a straight multiplayer game, like The Last Of Us, the Horizon game is rumoured to be a MMO, made by South Korean developer NCSoft – best known for Lineage and Guild Wars.

Although the news broke in South Korea the actual source was, as always seems to be the case, job ads, with NCSoft currently advertising for people to work on a new MMO codenamed Project H.

There’s the danger of some details being lost in translation but while there’s no specific information on the game it is supposedly the start of a new business partnership, that may lead to NCSoft working on other Sony franchises in the future.

The wider world of Horizon is certainly an interesting one, with the various tribes and robot animals seeming like a good basis for an MMO, but unfortunately South Korean website MTN doesn’t seem to know anything more.

After the success of the first two games, the Horizon franchise is currently undergoing rapid expansion, with VR game Call Of The Mountain and rumours of a remaster of Zero Dawn and DLC for Forbidden West.

A third mainline entry goes without saying but there were also rumours, as far back as 2019, of original developer Guerrilla Games working on a new multiplayer title.

If the MMO rumour is true that lessens the chances that Guerrila’s game is related to Horizon, although the chances of it being a Killzone revival, as some fans hope, still seems remote.
