RuPaul’s Drag Race UK has issued an apology after a post confused season 4 queens Baby and Black Peppa.
After Dakota Schiffer’s exit from the competition during last week’s episode, a video was shared on social media to mark her departure, which featured a photo of Black Peppa incorrectly captioned as being Baby.
Following uproar from fans, Drag Race UK deleted the post across its platforms and released a statement, saying the BBC Three programme was ‘deeply sorry’ for the error.
‘We are so deeply sorry about an error that appeared on a BBC social video that was made to support RuPaul’s Drag Race UK,’ the statement read.
‘We have sincerely apologised to both Baby and Black Peppa and we also want to extend our heartfelt apologies to anyone else that this post offended.’
In a second tweet, Drag Race UK added: ‘As soon as the mistake was spotted, the post in question was removed from all of our platforms. Once again, our sincerest apologies.’

Baby and Black Peppa have since spoken out on the blunder, sharing their anger and describing the mistake as ‘lazy’ and ‘disgusting’.
London-based performer Baby expressed their view that the person who edited the video should be fired, saying it was an ‘embarrassing’ error to make.

‘I know I’m late to the party but I genuinely hope the person who edited @dakota_schiffer’s farewell video gets f**king fired,’ they wrote.
‘It’s so embarrassing that someone on the @dragracekbbc socials team can’t differentiate between the only two black girls on the cast,’ they added, alongside a snoring emoji.

Black Peppa reiterated Baby’s statement, resharing their fellow contestant’s tweet while commenting: ‘I second that! It’s honestly lazy and disgusting.’
In response to a furious fan, Baby tweeted that they find it ‘just crazy’, because ‘they would never confuse Danny for Pixie or Dakota for Starlet’.
‘But, when it comes to the black girls, everyone wants to play dumb, deaf and blind. Interesting…’ they stated.
The 25-year-old also thanked the social media team on Drag Race UK for taking action, writing: ‘Shout out [to] the @dragraceukbbc socials team for taking responsibility for their actions. Thank you.’
Baby finished in eighth place in this year’s series after making the shock decision to leave the show, telling RuPaul and the other judges: ‘I need to go home and take care of myself.’
Black Peppa is still in the running for the crown, having made it to the top five.
RuPaul’s Drag Race UK returns on Thursday at 9pm on BBC Three and BBC iPlayer.
