Ryan Reynolds says stepping up on stage and performing on The Masked Singer in South Korea was a ‘traumatic’ experience.
When promoting Deadpool 2 back in 2018, the actor stunned audiences of the series King of Masked Singer when he was unveiled after belting out a rendition of Tomorrow from Annie.
Wearing a glittery unicorn mask and cape with rainbow details, Ryan wasn’t actually that bad, but has now said singing the show tune was terrifying.
‘I’ve been doing this job a long time, and when you go on these international tours, you start to say, “What’s the weirdest show we can go on?!”,’ the actor said of how it all unfolded during a recent interview with TODAY.
‘This was before The Masked Singer was in the U.S. So they said, “They have this show called [King of] Mask Singer, which is huge in South Korea,”,’ he explained.
‘I said, “Lord, we’re doing this show. We have to do that show”.’

He added that at the time, no Westerner had been on the series before, so ‘it was a big surprise when I lost the mask’.
While the judges and audiences lost it when the reveal happened, Reynolds said he was ‘in actual hell’.
‘When I was there, I was like, “Why did I sign up to do this? This is horrible. This is truly horrible”.’

‘I don’t even know this song, I don’t know how to do this. It was traumatic.’
After wrapping up his performance, Ryan apologised to those who had to listen.
‘I’m so sorry about that song,’ he said, before joking that he was so nervous he was wearing an ‘adult diaper’.

He also said that he hadn’t even told his wife, Blake Lively, that he had signed up.
While he’s clearly a little embarrassed at his singing efforts at that time, Ryan appears to have grown some confidence, with his latest film Spirited seeing him in a musical, modern re-telling of A Christmas Carol.
Today airs on NBC in the US.
