Sylvester Stallone has opened up on his friend Bruce Willis’s diagnosis of aphasia, admitting it ‘kills’ him to know he is going through a tough time.
The Rocky star, 75, has been friends with Bruce, 67, for decades and admitted it was hard to see how the diagnosis had affected him.
Speaking in The Hollywood Reporter, Sylvester admitted: ‘Bruce is going through some really, really difficult times. So he’s been sort of incommunicado. That kills me. It’s so sad.’
The Die Hard star had announced he was retiring from acting in March after being diagnosed with aphasia, which affects the ability to speak and understand language.
His daughter Rumer Willis broke the news on Instagram, alongside a photo of the actor, telling fans: ‘To Bruce’s amazing supporters, as a family we wanted to share that our beloved Bruce has been experiencing some health issues and has recently been diagnosed with aphasia, which is impacting his cognitive abilities.
‘As a result of this and with much consideration Bruce is stepping away from the career that has meant so much to him.’

She added that it had been ‘a really challenging time for our family and we are so appreciative of your continued love, compassion and support’.
‘We are moving through this as a strong family unit, and wanted to bring his fans in because we know how much he means to you, as you do to him. As Bruce always says, “Live it up” and together we plan to do just that,’ Rumer wrote.
Bruce, who starred with Sylvester in movies including The Expendables, did not reveal the cause of his aphasia, which can be caused by different things including a stroke, head injury, brain tumour or progressive neurological conditions including dementia.
After the announcement, Sylvester had shared a series of photos of him with Bruce, adding: ‘We go back a long way, praying for the best for you and your wonderful family…’
Bruce’s next film, Paradise City, will see him star alongside John Travolta and will be released on November 11.
