Cynthia Erivo has spoken of her pride at coming out as bisexual after first struggling with ‘fear’ of sharing who she is.

The London actress, who is starring as Elphaba in the  big-screen version of Wicked alongside Ariana Grande, revealed in July that she was bisexual, after first identifying as queer.

Cynthia, 35, said at the time that she had felt the confidence to come out after first struggling with ‘nerves and fear.’

But, thanks to a support network of ‘wonderful people’ she was ready to ‘share a little more.’

Now, in a new interview with Glamour, the award-winning actress has spoken out about her pride of being bisexual – having aptly made her announcement during Pride month this year.

‘I’m really proud that I’ve come out. I feel more myself than I ever have; it’s like a shear has been lifted from my person,’ she said, adding that it feels ‘really good to just be “This is who I am!”‘

The star explained that letting go allowed her to ‘put energy where it’s meant to be,’ allowing her to be her ‘most creative self, my most free self.’

‘Nothing else is taking energy because it needs to be hidden or concealed.’

She added that she appears to have gained a new layer of thick skin and no longer takes things personally, ‘because I refuse to give away the joy that this has given me.’

Cynthia had taken part in a powerful British Vogue shoot for the famous publication’s Pride issue in July, posing on the cover alongside the likes of Cara Delevingne and Munroe Bergdorf.

She shared an inspirational message in honour of the day, saying LGBTQ+ people should be ‘commended for being brave’ rather than ‘chastised’ for being different.

‘That’s the most important thing: giving people the space to show up fully as who they are.’
