Ryan Reynolds has revealed he is seriously looking into buying another sports team, following his headline-grabbing purchase of football side Wrexham AFC I 2020.
Successfully teaming up with It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia star Rob McElhenney to become co-owners of the Welsh side has led to a fair amount of social media trolling and viral marketing campaigns, as well as a shiny Disney Plus series, Welcome to Wrexham.
Inspired by that, the Deadpool actor – who is expecting his fourth child with wife Blake Lively – is now exploring buying Canadian National Hockey League side Ottawa Senators.
However, it’s not something he will be able to do on his own.
‘I am trying to [buy the Senators]. It’s very expensive, so I need a partner with really deep pockets,’ he confirmed.
Explaining the plan, he jokingly added: ‘It’s called a consortium, when you form a group together to buy an entity and it’s such a fancy way of saying, “I need a sugar mommy or a sugar daddy”, and if that doesn’t work out, I’ll buy a US senator which anyone can afford.’

On Friday, Ottawa Senators announced via the NHL website that ‘a process has been initiated for the sale’ of the club.
‘Galatioto Sports Partners has been retained as financial advisor and a process has been initiated for the sale of the Ottawa Senators Hockey Club,’ said Sheldon Plener, chairman and governor of the team, in a statement.
‘This was a necessary and prudent step to connect with those deeply interested parties who can show us what their vision is for the future of the team.’
He added: ‘A condition of any sale will be that the team remains in Ottawa.

‘The organisation will have no further comment on this process at this time.’
Ryan told Jimmy Fallon on The Tonight Show that his personal link to Ottawa was a big reason for looking into the purchase.
‘I grew up in Vancouver which has my heart always, but I also grew up in Ottawa, Canada, as I spent a long time in Vanier, which is a little town right inside Ottawa,’ he said.
The 46-year-old has also admitted that he hopes his fourth baby will be a girl to add to their daughters, James, seven, Inez, six, and three-year-old Betty.
